#GIRLBOSS

Quickly…
#GIRLBOSS is the how-to business book for rebels. For the girls {and guys} who aren’t interested in following the rules or listening to what society says we ‘should’ do to be successful, and rising above anyway, and coming out on top… the 1% if you’re Sophia Amoruso, in more ironic ways than one.

There was so much buzz about this book called #GIRLBOSS, I just had to get it. Once I looked into it, I realized it was written by Sophia Amoruso, the owner, founder, and now CEO and Creative Director of Nasty Gal. This made it even more interesting to me because being on the internet before Nasty Gal was a super successful business, I kind of watched it grow over the years, and when I started getting their ads on my own {blog’s} sidebars, I felt like a cool girl too.

The book is great and an easy read. In fact, I read it in two days flat, which is unusual for me. I liked that I could hear the author’s voice in it. I liked that I could relate to it and her on so many levels; from learning about vintage fashion through thrifting at a young age and then selling on eBay later on, to my first job as a Sandwich Artist at Subway, we have many similarities as well as a work hard to get what you want philosophy.

From interviewing for a job, writing a cover letter, and the do’s and don’ts of all things related, #GIRLBOSS is supremely helpful for those just stepping into the business world for the first time and those planning on it in the near future. It offers fantastic money management tips through Sophia’s personal stories and learning to save more than you spend, regardless of how much you may want those new shoes. And she’s right.

Being where I am in my career and life, I didn’t necessarily learn anything I don’t already know or do business-wise, but it was still a fantastic read anyway. More than her take on business, I liked getting a glimpse at her road to success, much like mine, which didn’t include a college degree.

Lesson…
You don’t HAVE to “follow the rules” to be successful in this world, there are plenty of alternate routes.

Welcome to the Real World

* Buy it: Welcome to the Real World: Finding Your Place, Perfecting Your Work, and Turning Your Job into Your Dream Career by Lauren Berger

Quickly…
Welcome to the Real World is a great read for the girl {or guy} who wants to get in, stay in, and move up the corporate ladder. From personal experience, Lauren offers practical tips, advice, guidelines, and perfect office protocol she learned from being a bad employee to becoming the CEO of her own company, InternQueen.com, all with an up-beat positive ‘you can do it’ vibe.

Just graduating college? Or maybe you skipped college and went right into the work force head on. Either way, this book offers TONS of helpful tips in bold lists and simple-to-navigate chapters to walk you through any possible challenge you may encounter before, during, and and after landing your dream job or career.

From professional phone etiquette and taking messages in an entry level position to emails and networking tips, how to handle rejection, and the power of organizing and an organized desk, even if it’s littered with glitter notebooks and pretty pens, Lauren lists pertinent info you need to know per task at hand and what questions to ask so that you get it right the first time. She teaches you how to impress your superiors to get promoted and reminds you to be nice and professional at all times with an Everyone knows everyone mentality – because you just never know. And right when you think you’ve got it all figured out, she offers great financial tips and overall positive life experience advice as well.

I’ve had to learn the long hard way. I wish I had this book when I was 20 years old. It would have saved me from some super embarrassing moments and taught me a thing or two about the real world. Seriously.

Overall…

I recommend #GIRLBOSS to any girl/woman as a fun read & look into Sophia Amoruso’s life with great business tips in between.

I recommend Welcome to the Real World to EVERY young girl {teens/early 20’s} or graduating college just entering the business world.
