Am I Wrong, For Trying to Reach the Things that I Can’t See

What I’m Wearing…

* Floral summer swing dress by Free People from last year. I have it in a lighter floral print as well, but it’s a little shorter than this one so I haven’t worn it yet. Better as a coverup or with shorts underneath it… See it here in Spring with boots and a crop top
* Old burgundy tank worn under
* Suede Panama hat
* Butterfly sunglasses by 3.1 Phillip Lim
* Lace up open toe booties by Jeffrey Campbell… ps. they zip up the back so you don’t have to lace them up every time.
* Balenciaga classic town bag from What Goes Around Comes Around… even a “vintage” version of this bag sells for pretty close to retail, though I couldn’t find this particular style/color {which is my fave} new… it’s a good investment piece, but really, I waited so long to get one, I haven’t stopped using it since I got it last year.

Every summer I have my go-to dress; the one I throw on when I have to run errands, or really, do anything at all, and this year, this is it. It always happens by accident though, I never buy a dress and then say “this will be my summer dress”. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. I generally throw it on with flip flops, but these lace up boots really complete the look… and it felt a bit too boring to share unless I amped it up. I do wear the hat with it most times though.

* Title: Nico & Vinz – Am I WrongIf one thing I know, I’ll fall but I’ll grow… I’m walking down this road of mine, this road that I call home… Walk your walk and don’t look back… Always do what you decide… Don’t let them control your life, that’s just how I feel… Fight for yours and don’t let go… Don’t let them compare you, no… Don’t worry, you’re not alone, that’s just how we feel.

Growing up in LA, the thought of winter was a blip on the map. Winters there are more like very long falls, where leaves don’t completely fall from the trees until January, unless it’s still warm, then leaves fall even through February. There’s rarely a thought about the actual winter season there, because nothing really changes at all.

Since moving to the mountain about 3.5 years ago now, I’ve really found myself looking so forward to winter. Yes, I’m a summer girl, true and true, but the seasons change everything. Watching the trees turn a million different colors, rain washing summer away, fog so thick the skies are white, and then snow, glistening in the California sun; the seasons are so incredibly beautiful here and ever-changing, that it’s really fun to anticipate them. The seasons demand that you change certain things about your everyday existence, and it’s one of the things I love about it.

But now that it’s August, and summer seems to by flying by, I find myself thinking about winter with a little worry and hesitation this year. If my husband and I aren’t together, then I’ll be braving this winter on my own, and all the What ifs flood my head with a bit of panic wondering how I’m going to handle it all.

But the truth is, we never know what’s going to happen, no matter what we’re going through, no matter the season. As confident as we may be living our daily lives, things could turn on a dime, forcing us to rearrange our thoughts and actions to work through whatever it is we have to. Because that’s just life.

I’ll be a different person come winter, hopefully looking back at this summer with a big fat smile, and embracing the cold like I always do, with pure excitement and giddiness.

But I know I still have a few more hot summer months to go, and until they end, I’ll be living right here in the moment, feeling the warm breeze against my skin.
