Blue Manicure: Triangle Nail Art DIY

Hmmm… I’m not sure I’m completely, 100% in love with this. I mean, I loved the idea and have wanted to create it for a few weeks now but again, I’m not sure it came out exactly how I was hoping. I like it but I think I may have to give it another go with a bit of a different technique. I went with a Y shape over a simple V because the latter had a French manicure feel that I wasn’t aiming for. I think I just wanted the silver Y a bit thinner but my brush was too large. I may have to invest in this fun 15 piece nail art brush kit if I want to continue any of this nail art.

Here’s what I used:
* OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui
* ESSI Lapis of Luxury ~ my favorite nail color, Summer 2010
* LA Colors Art Deco polish ~ Silver with long, thin brushes.
* Chanel Brillance Extreme top coat ~ or your favorite top coat

Feelin' blue... two more hues to go. #nails #manicure

* 2 coats of your darkest color {OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui}

Note: you’ll want this to dry COMPLETELY so do it the day before or early in the morning, then finish up the rest afternoon.

* Prepare 10 small pieces of Scotch tape and using the hard edges, tape off your triangle.

Note: My tape is apparently very strong. If yours is too, I suggest, sticking each piece on your clothes to de-stickify it 😉 It will be easier to remove in the end and less chance of ruining your first coats.

* Using your lighter shade, {ESSI Lapis of Luxury} fill in your triangle and let dry. Best to do one hand at a time and snip your tape pieces down once on your hand so as to not tape to one another creating a claw of sorts.

* Once dry, remove your tape. I didn’t have perfect lines, but this was my first try at this taping off nail art… though I do love the sort of 80’s geometric look of it.

* Using your fine brush and 3rd color {LA Colors Art Deco polish ~ Silver} carefully create your Y, hiding your messing triangle lines.

This was surprising difficult to photograph as well…

…so I thought this canvas-like image would be helpful. But here’s the real deal; less than perfect.

And here are the amazing blue orchids floating atop that blue pot you see above…

blue orchids

The husband brought these home for me in December and they are still just as beautiful as the day they arrived! Some orchids last forever and some die in 3 weeks. I’m excited to be regrowing 3 more orchids around my kitchen window at the moment. Yellow, Purple and a new one that’s just about to bloom. I’m not sure what color it will be yet but I get so excited regrowing them. Click here to see how I do it.

Have Fun!
