Ugh. …I just want to cry right now. I’ve had a ridiculous mucousy cough for about three weeks now. A cough that feels like it’s either the beginning or the end of a cold …but the only other symptoms I’ve had are a bit of a stuffy/runny nose …and anxiety. Last night before bed I coughed up a little blood …a little pink blood …AND FLIPPED OUT. I WAS SERIOUSLY SHAKING IN FEAR.

I tried to sleep sitting up as to prevent any coughing which has left me unbelievably tired and anxious. Fun times. When I finally got the doctor on the phone this morning she asked me if I had taken anything for the cough yet, no …and if I had any other symptoms, no …then told me to go get some Robitussin for the cough. No chest x-rays? No doctor visit? Really? I felt better …but still shaken.

I sadly have not done this amazing dress justice I actually feel like a ballerina in it. It’s one of those wrap dresses you can wear a gazillion ways and is so comfy on a day like today when I feel less than 100%

Please tell me you’ve made a doctor’s appointment to get your cough checked out! I just read an article in Glamour that kinda has me paranoid, but it’s about 3 women who waited to get treatment for something until it was scarily really bad. I’m not a hypochondriac at all, but if you’re coughing up blood, even a little, get yourself to a doctor, lady! While I step down off my soapbox, might I say, gorgeous dress!

I had that cough a couple weeks ago. I got one of those Vicks Warm Air Humidifier that you put the Vapor in and it worked FANTASTIC. Cleared it up in a couple days and let me sleep soundly at night. I felt like a dork but it TOTALLY worked!

oh no oh no oh no. I am so sorry, you are not feeling good, and I am so sorry you are feeling anxious as well. No fun at all. I think its best to just get it checked out, a lingering cough is usually just that….a lingering cough. Although, still highly annoying. I freak out over blood too!…ummm does it help though that you look AMAZING and that color is completely perfect on you. I really love the cut, its totally beautiful.

    Feel better! …soon!!

    Hi Maegan,

Sorry you’re feeling sick… I’m a dentist and I have a 17 month old baby and have been reading plenty on homeopathy (I prefer to try something natural first when he’s sick rather than giving him chemical stuff directly). I’ve found that homeopathic medicine is usually very helpful in treating physical, mental and emotional symptoms of illness; it could take away your cough and calm your anxiety, whereas halopathic medicine/regular OTC drugs would just supress your cough. Aside from that, I’ve read (and tried and it really works), that putting a dish of chopped onion near you when you stay home and drinking plenty of water will thin out the mucous and help you expell it. The dish of onion there all the time seems annoying at first, but after a while, when you start feeling relief you’ll barely notice the smell anymore.

On another note: I loooooooove you blog, keep doing what you do, you’re a great inspiration! Get well soon.

    feel better, lovee.

you look amazingly not like crap in these pictures… it kinda makes me angry. ha.

don’t worry about a little blood (a lot of blood- now that you can worry about). the blood is probably from your sinuses and not your lungs.

i cough up streaky phlegm (such a fun word to spell) whenever my sinuses decide to stop working… which is now. FUN. so you’re not alone in that dept.

i, unlike you though, look like abs shit today. bah.

I am an old woman (47) that loves to read your blog. Get to a doctor. I had whooping cough ( also known as pertussis) last year. Apparently the vaccine wears off after so many years and the disease is coming back. You have the same symptoms that I had. Any doctor that hears you are coughing up blood should at least want to see you. Go to the doctor.

colds suck…but yeah, it might be worth checking out, though in my lifetime only once was the doctor ever been able to do something (i keep getting viral illnesses which you can do nothing about except take it easy)

anyway, what i was going to say, is you look gorgeous! and that dress, it’s simple, but has so many cool details, i love it!

the BEST cure for colds like that is to drink a glass of apple cider vinegar. some people coat the bottom with honey but i dont mind the taste. i learned about this and it actually works. last year i lost my voice for like 3 weeks and had a hacking cough and once i did this it helped, and it can’t hurt so i say try it. feel better!!!

Hi darling! I agree with previous comments and strongly suggest that you go and see a doctor. Any doctor should see you with this sort of symptoms and the length of the problem. I don’t think it’s serious and the blood was because some capillaries broke up as you strained, but it’s not so good to leave it as is. So, please, be a good girl and make an appointment.
Also, using garlic may be a good thing for you as it not only kills bacteria (it’s a natural antibiotic), but also helps to strengthen your immune system. You don’t have to have raw garlic for obvious reasons :), but using a garlic supplement would be good. They do not smell. 🙂

On a fashionable note 🙂 Love the dress and the shoes and adore your hair.

P.S. Go and see a doctor!

You’d certainly never know you were under-the-weather — you look lovely in these photos!

I’m very sorry to hear about your cough — when I had a mild case of the flu earlier this fall, I had an icky cough that lasted for an extra two weeks — I constantly had Halls cherry and strawberry throat drops with me, and they helped to soothe my throat a bit!

I hope that you’re feeling 100% again soon!!

    November 12, 2009 |

Hey Maegan-I read your blog loyally every day but today it really caught my attention when you mentioned the cough. I am never one to talk because when I get sick I never go to the doctor and my brother is just like me as well. I mention my brother because he had the same symptoms you did and the doctor kept telling him it was just an infection gave him an antibiotic and sent him home. He knew something wasn’t right and he starting coughing up small amounts of blood so to make a long story short-he went to the ER to get x-rays and he ended up having pneumonia. So please, please find another doctor and get chest x-rays at least. My brother ended up in the ICU for almost a month but it would have been worse if he didn’t follow his gut! So, follow what your body is telling you and please go to another doctor!!! Feel better soon 🙂

Oh no! I hope you are feeling better, the cough sounds awful.

Hi Maegan. I bumped into your blog today and I think you have such wonderful style! I clicked back through a lot of your archived completely gratuitous outfit posts (ha ha, good titling) and saw so many beautiful looks. This particular outfit would be my November highlight so far. That’s a really lovely purple dress. The rising hemline is appealing and I like the criss-crossing fabric winding around the waist, and how a long end hangs down elegantly at the front. I love how you’ve combined it with all that black, and altogether I find it a really sexy and classy look. I don’t know why you thought you hadn’t done the dress justice; I think you look fantastic!

I’m not completely sure how you’re taking these photos, and to begin with I assumed you must have had an able photographer on hand as the shots are so good. But in one entry I read something about you just resting a camera on your car. If that’s really how you’re doing it, I’m extra impressed that you’re getting such excellent shots, such as photos 1 and 3 here, nice and sharp and well lit too – which isn’t all that common on the web! So anyway, please keep up the good work. I think it’s great how you’re documenting things and I’m looking forward to seeing your lovely styles from day to day now I’ve discovered your blog. Thanks for your efforts, and bye for now! – Keith

Love your outfit and reallly love your sunroom. My old house had a sunroom and I painted it all white. I was never really sure what to do for decor (I did b&w photos and accessories)...wish I wouldve seen your birdhouses back then. They look awesome! I like it! Even winter will be brighter for you this year. I’m sure the plants thank you! (I’m still absorbing the fancy pants – imagining how it would be to walk in them, how she did it, etc. So many questions; so little time.)
