DIY Pom Pom Cocktail Napkins and Coasters

DIY Pom Pom Cocktail Napkins or Coasters, blue and white

As I flipped through my latest Elle Decor mag the other day, I got as far as the very first page, or the very last that is, and immediately set it down, got up, and started rummaging through my DIY supplies to find my little ball tassels to DIY my own version of the adorable cocktail napkins by Dransfield & Ross {$58 for a set of 4}. I had this random piece of sample fabric by Barclay Butera that I’ve always wanted to use but never could, and was so happy to finally be able to do so.

While the actual cocktail napkins are all in the 6x6inch range, I actually wanted mine to feel a bit more like coasters, so I made them a few inches smaller. This is a very simple DIY and doesn’t really need instructions, but they may help so…

What You’ll Need…

* Fabric. Cotton is probably your best bet so you can easily wash it, but if it’s thin, I’d double it up.
* Ball tassel fringe trim
* Needle/Matching Thread
* Scissors and Pinking Shears
* Fray check/liquid seam sealer {unless you finish your edges with a nice hem}

Steps…

* Cut out your squares with your pinking shears. I used the shears to get a fun edge since I knew I wouldn’t be hemming them. I also wanted them to peek out just a little beyond the trim.

* As you can see, I made my squares about 4-3/4″ each

* Measure and cut your ball tassel fringe trim for each edge.

* I simply hand-stitched them on, but you could easily use a machine for this project. Make sure to finish each corner so they look smooth and presentable and if you’re not hemming your napkin edges, dab a bit of seam sealer so your fabric doesn’t fray.

* Depending on what fabric you use for your napkins, you should be able to wash them. I suggest washing in cold and lining dry so your balls keep their shape.

Voila… Voila!
