Buy it here: BaByliss PRO Professional Porcelain Ceramic Curling Iron
*Because this iron is porcelain/ceramic, it doesn’t seem to dry out my locks as much so it creates a softer/shinier wave. This is a new iron and I’ve only used it once but I’m loving it so far.

Buy it here: HOT TOOLS Super Tool 2 inch Professional Curling Iron
with Multi Heat Control (Model: 1111)
* Air-dried hair but looks like a blow-out. Used iron at roots to lift …then smoothed out sections with it and curled from bottom up. This is new as well …and loving it too.
{$25 @ amazon – link above. I spent $44 @ the beauty supply. dumb}
Buy it here: Hot Tools Jumbo 1″ {Model 1181}
* This is what have used for all waving in the past.
Click Here for my perfect wave hair-too video
* Dries out my hair more than the newer porcelain ceramic versions but possibly gets hotter. I rarely brush these waves out. Occasionally I fluff the top with a brush. Using larger/smaller sections creates more/less waves.

Cool Touch Rollers in 3 Sizes (Model: 1321)
* Mine are actually my mom’s from the 70’s. Nothing works as well on my hair as hers. lol. The hot tools link look the most similar and probably work just as well.
* Mostly I curl hair {old-school} from the bottom up with hot rollers …but occasionally I’ll start at the top or middle as with my curling irons/perfect wave tutorial.
* Hair spray all styles lightly to hold and “fluff” with hands ;). Usually, second day hair has more texture and holds a wave better. I rarely blow-dry my hair any more as to avoid extra damage.
* You can also use these techniques for short hair as well using a skinnier iron …or the 1″ versions for a larger wave for short bobs to shoulder lengths …try it out 😉

Ha! I use the same hot rollers… that is when I borrow them… from my mom! Too funny:)

You look so gorg in all of these pics. For some reason, I totally suck at curling my hair. It just doesn’t come out right. But I love your wavy hair with the curling iron. Wish my hair turned out like that!

loved the versatility of having long hair…but mine looks so much better short. *jealous*

My favourites are the hot rollers! But now I got pretty excited about No3 as well 🙂
And you look gorgeous as always!

Those sponge rollers! Were they your mom’s? I think I’m older than your mom, but my mom used to put these in my hair when I was a baby-girl. Slept on them every night! She wanted me to have curly hair
Your hair is lovely. As you are.
Thanks for all these tips!
Elizabeth Marie
This is incredible…printinggggg!!!

YAY! I needed this post, thanks Maegan. I’m so OVER my hair…this helps.

This makes me want to dig out my hot rollers! Haven’t used them in ages. Usually just use a curling iron. Seems faster that way…
Brooke
My hair never turns out that good! I’ll have to try some of these tips 🙂
Hanako66
this is great! I have the two hot tools irons that you have and have what I think may be a 1 1/4 in hot tools as well. I have been thinking about switching to ceramic so that it is better on my hair and lately, I have been using my flat iron to curl…that or pin curls.
love this!
Revolution Vintage
I see a L’Oreal commercial in your future : )
Such fab hair!

I keep telling myself to watch your video hair tutorials and give them a try one weekend. I. Love. Your. Hair. Always. Thanks for sharing your tools and tricks! I’m definitely going to try out a few of these. 🙂

I have hot rollers, but they are the sponge kind. When I do take the time and effort it works very good for me.

I’m a huge advocate of the hot rollers and of velcro rollers. They are just so much easier for me when I’m running around like a crazy brownie in the morning…and give me the same results as a curling iron, I don’t have that kind of patience. Love your hair, every which way!
Jaime
Your hair is so gorgeous!
Lauryn
I’ve never used sponge rollers before, but you have officially convinced me to give ’em a try! Those are some gorgeous curls!
besswess
I always start in the middle with my hotrollers. I need to let my hair grow. Long hair always helps with sponge rollers. Thanks for your tutorials. They are great. You are so beautiful. Especially in the last two pictures. That was a great hotness day for you. 🙂

This post is absolutely amazing. As a gal with fine & straight hair, I’m always looking for the tools for a great curl job…

I tried your sponge roller technique the other day… didn’t quite have the same effect on my hair 🙂 It’s so humid in Dallas this month that my hair is a big-ol’-ball of frizz…
Love the how-to’s though!

You have an amazing hair!!!!!!and you look beautiful in all your pictures 🙂

You’re my hair hero. Heroine. Whatever. As a girl who scrunches some mousse into her wet locks and leaves the house, I am in awe of your dedication to that gorgeous mane!
Say, lady, any chance I could hop on your blogroll? Gotcha in mine …
Maeko
Thanks for this post. I want to have waves and curls… and this advice is good…
But I honestly don’t think I have the patience for it.

All your hairstyles are lovely! I wish I could do that too!

I steal my mother’s 70’s curlers too, and there is seriously nothing better. They are awesome.
rian
hi,your all hair styles look great but i think its because of your health hair, cause when i use these tools, especially sponge rollers, yes i have good looking curls but much more frizz..unfortunately.
Yaya
So THAT’S how you do the fro!
Tiffany
you are brilliant. i love this post! I thought I had a lot of hair curling tools but you have a lot! 🙂 thanks for showing us the ways though, I will be doing more variety to my curls/waves now.

Ahhh! Don’t use sponge rollers! They will give you split ends and frizz to no end! Especially if anyone has ANY texture to their hair. Rag rolling (super old-timey) or the squishy rollers that bend at the ends (actually used in salons for perming) are MUCH healthier for your hair. I’m a stylist, and I have naturally curly hair, trust me, you’ll thank me someday!
Underfunded Heiress
Oh your hair is so darn gorgeous! You should be in a hair commercial!
I can’t remember if you said you take vitamins or not.

Ugh, this all sounds so complicated and time-consuming. Want to just come to SF and do mine for me ?? 😉
Jacqueline

Maegan,
my name’s Jane, im from Russia =) i became a fan of your blog (but have not yet registered to follow on a daily basis). i came across your blog when searching for ruched bikini 🙂 i must say, you’re gorgeous, smart and nice; your DIY ideas are fab!
i do have a question – about your hair stylist. i will be moving to the US this summer, but to the opposite coast, NYC. unfortunately, i won’t be able to visit your stylist (as much as i’d love to, looking at your haircolor). i seem to have a very similar hair type and natural color as you do, so i was wondering – do you know what brand and type haircolor does Nikki use on you? to get a similar look on my hair i’ll then just search for a stylist in my area that works with the same product.
thank you in advance!
Jane Ovchinnikova.

Your hair is so, so incredibly stunning. I love it! And I agree, a ceramic straightening iron is so much better for your hair – I use the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair http://www.hairproductspro.com/karmin-g3-salon-pro-hair-styling-iron-black.html and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. Thanks for giving so much inspiration with your photos!
