Hair | Touching Up Roots in Between Salon Visits w/ Color WOW

Hair color wow root cover blonde

A few months ago I was sent Color Wow Root Cover Up {temporary hair color/powder} to try out and I’ve been sort of waiting for my roots to grow out to really give it a proper test. And now’s that time!

As I’ve probably mentioned a hundred times since 2007 when I started this blog, I’m very lazy about hair maintenance and unless I have an event or something special coming up, I tend to let my roots grow out longer than the average blonde. It really just comes down to not wanting to spend four hours sitting on my butt in a salon, which even my husband finds strange because he loves being pampered. For me though, it just causes anxiety to have to sit for so long.

Last year I found Keratin Complex Dry Shampoo {in blonde} that I began using for volume boost, but quickly realized it lifted and lighted my roots a bit as well, which was a bonus. I started using it mostly when my roots grew out for just that reason. Also, if you color your hair, you know that once your roots grow out, it also gets a little flat on top, as your natural hairs are healthier than the dyed/bleached ones, and lack that “lift” you get at your roots after a salon visit.

When I tried the Color Wow I realized how little my dry shampoo was really doing for lightening my roots, because this stuff actually lightened my roots and matched my highlighted hair color. I was pretty excited at the results, I’m not gonna lie.

I learned while creating my DIY Merida Hair that eyeshadow works as a fun temporary hair color and that maybe simply using a light eyeshadow would give you the same results? Just a hunch… though I haven’t tried it.

What I love most about the Color WOW is the brush it comes with, which as two sides, one larger than the other, so you can really be precise when covering up the darker areas {and the few grays I have floating around up there too!}. The color was perfect as well… I used “Platinum” even though my hair is not quite that light, it worked, and I was able to also follow my already highlighted “stripes” to create a more realistic look. They offer six different colors to match your hair. {$34.50}

I have to say I love it! I will probably still begin by using my blonde dry shampoo then add this on top until I get to the salon, of course, which could be a few more weeks because I’m so lazy, but as you can see in the photo below, I don’t need to use the other in addition to it. This stuff is kind of an amazing for that “in between” cover up.

NOTE: Though I was gifted this product, I was not paid for this post & all opinions truly are my own. I love it.
