4th of July Fireworks on the Lake / Lake Arrowhead, CA

I had a few different outfits in mind for the 4th festivities, but when it came down to it, I just wanted to be comfy and casual. I threw on this Pepsi tee ( though I think this Pepsi ringer tee would have completed the look a bit better, just saying ), which I bought years ago, and still had the tags attached, because it was the only shirt I had that was red, white, and blue. I’m not sure when I bought it or why, and being that I’d never worn it was a sign that I probably never would have. BUT, alas, the red/white/blue theme won and I threw it on with my old Levi’s cutoffs (which were originally my mom’s jeans until she wore them to actual shreds) and my adidas and headed out the door.

I was running late to see the fireworks and literally ran down my lane, crossed the street, and rushed down to my friend’s dock at about 9:08 to catch the amazing firework display. I was happy I’d made it in time to still see about 20 minutes of the show because truly, Lake Arrowhead has the most incredible Independence Day firework show I’ve ever seen.

Each year I sit on the shore near the village and am overwhelmed and amazed by the firework display – sometimes to tears ( I know, a bit dramatic, but what can I say? ) but this year, watching the show from a dock, and getting a whole new view, was just what I needed. You can really see the fireworks from almost anywhere on the mountain, but watching the reflection over the water, and being almost directly under the booming and flashing, is awe-inspiring. This year may have been even better than the last four I’ve seen, and I can’t tell if it was my perspective (mentally and physically) or if each year they really get better and better. But it was beautiful…

Anyway… I thought my outfit was rather boring, cute but nothing to write home about. But oddly enough I got comments all night about it in connection to the Cindy Crawford Pepsi commercial from the ’90s (which of course I remember, because who doesn’t remember that commercial?!) though I had to watch it again because while I remembered the Levi’s cutoffs, I couldn’t remember what top she was wearing in it… which was a white tank bodysuit and not a Pepsi tee, just for the record. Watch it below… (’90s Supermodels FOR THE WIN)

It’s funny how something as simple as an outfit can stir up nostalgia in a way you wouldn’t have imagined, especially when it was by complete accident. But watching the ad again made me smile and reminded me of a time with fewer distractions and far less responsibility.

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and fun and relaxing Independence Day. I’ll say that I’m struggling a bit getting back into working after taking a little break, but it was worth it.

… also, my shirt is wrinkled because I had to shoot this outfit the day AFTER actually wearing it.
