Lake House Update | Master Bedroom | Before + Now

Master Bedroom decorating, before photo

Our new master bedroom, like most of the rooms in our new home by the lake, is only partially complete… eight months after moving in, we are still only partially done with everything. I guess that’s normal, but it’s constantly nagging at me to finish!

Since the master gets the least amount of traffic on a regular basis, it’s gotten a little neglected since we placed everything down and hung the flatscreen on the wall {top priority, of course ;}. While it seems like a mish-mash of old furniture, and well, it kind of is, when I purchased many of the items years ago for our old house I knew in the back of my mind they would end up in a future master bedroom. Notice the bench at the foot of the bed? It used to reside in our dining room.

The only thing “new” in this space as of now, is the bed. We swapped our queen bed {now in the nautical beachy guest room} for a king. We’re using and chest of drawers from our Old Master Bedroom, though they don’t quite match and I’ll probably refinish it at some point, as well as the chaise part of our old sectional {see photos below}. I’ve recently purchased a second Mirrored Bar Cabinet from Z Gallerie and will use them in place of the night stands now.

The space is rather large, and more than we need honestly, so we’ll eventually {hopefully} knock out the wall behind where the sectional is to enlarge the master bathroom, which is rather small at the moment {especially compared to the size of the room}.

color palette, grays purples

Just after we had it painted…

Paint color Dunn Edwards Dangerous Robot DE6387.

It’s a bit difficult to tell in the photos, but it’s a medium purply-gray, not as light as my office and not as dark as our old Living Room. I clearly like gray walls, but this one has more purple tones which work really well with my color palette and creates a really soothing and relaxing {and sexy ;} space.

I LOVED our old beachy/tropical master bedroom, but this bedroom called for a sleeker, sexier look and just so happen to work with many of our old pieces of furniture from our old living room and dining room.

The color palette was simply drawn from what I knew would be living in the space, like our Nathalia Edenmont flower print which used to hang Old Living Room… see it below with our old sofa as well as the throw blanket I’m using now.

Then {above} and Now {below} repurposed

This black round antique mirror seen above leaning against the wall was originally in our old living room {see below} with an antiqued chair with velvet animal print… and are both at home in our new master. The walls of our old living room were painted a similar but darker and more blue gray.

You can see the chair over in the corner by the artwork, which are both just placed at the moment…

The mirrored cabinet worked as a bar cabinet in our old dining room… as seen below with my DIY Eat and be Merry word art on the walls.

And it’s just placed under the window for now, but will have a sister and work as night tables on either side of the bed.

I haven’t decided on a bed frame just yet. Mostly because the slanted wall makes it difficult to find one that will fit properly, but also because I’m not sure I really need one. I have a few extra curtain panels and I’m thinking about DIYing either a headboard with them or draping them down from the crossbeam and behind the bed for a more dramatic effect. While I look at headboards and beds regularly, I haven’t found one I’m in love with so I may just wait until I’ve got the side tables in to finish it off.

The curtains and the bedding you see now are all from Bed Bath and Beyond but I’m SUPER excited about these pretty new sheets and duvet cover sent over from Crane and Canopy.

I got the Noe Gray Duvet and the Gray Embroidered Sheet Set seen together below {and they come in 4 other adorable colors as well. I love this print!}

Just more repurposing… our old dining room table with the bench now being used at the foot of the bed and the throw being used as a table-cloth for Thanksgiving that year {a favorite tabletop setting actually}, is now covering the old chaise sofa in the opposite end of the room.

And again, the dresser… I may refinish it… most probably, actually 😉

Since the mirrored cabinet you see above will be a side table, this space under the window will be free and I’m thinking of moving the two black chairs that are in my office sitting area at the moment to that space instead, and finding a small chaise or love seat for my office for more cozy sitting. I also have a large faux fur white rug that’s not being used and it may end up in here as well. Maybe at the foot of the bed or under this window with the chairs for a sitting area.

And since I’m waiting for what seems like forever for the new bar cabinet/side table to arrive and set a focal point for the space, I’m just sort of in limbo with the room and probably won’t finish it until it arrives. And even then, will it really be “finished”… probably not 😉
