OMG Becky, Look at His Beard… It is SO BIG

I love Instagram. Of all the apps on my phone, I use it the most, not only for my own fun purposes of sharing my life {mostly my dogs}, outfits, and blog posts in quick photos, but for inspiration as well, right at my fingertips, whenever I’m thirsty for it. Beyond getting a quick glimpse at what my friends and family are sharing, Instagram is a great source of inspiration for art, fashion, pop culture, and all things related, and I LOVE perusing it for just that.

The husband and I were discussing facial hair the other day, and beard culture in general, and noted the huge beard trend going on {and how Instagram is noticeably a great resource for trends and street style}. What’s fascinating about this specific trend is that most of the men sporting it {it seems} have very similar characteristics and style. For instance, they all have very perfectly coiffed hair, mostly very short or shaved on the sides and longer on the top, with just their beards looking seemingly unruly, but they are quite neat as well. They’re also heavily tatted, sometimes pierced and with stretched ear lobes, and often with a retro punk vibe. But they dress quite well, some -almost dandy, I’d say, and other than the beard, have a rather slick look about them.

While the husband claims that they fall into/under the “hipster” category, I would strongly disagree… though I’m not exactly sure what category exactly to label them as since they have a strong modern “Greaser” vibe, with some rock & punk influences, and just a touch of hipster –but maybe they don’t need a label {or maybe they have one and I’m just not aware of it?} — and it seems this specific trend & overall look began in London.

I’m a HUGE fan of facial hair on guys… mostly the scruffier the better. In fact, my husband keeps his face & neck scruffy and hairy just for me and has even told me that prior to me he had NEVER grown a beard or ever thought he would. I beg him never to shave, because I like the right amount of scruff… and while at first glance at these ginormous beards made me cringe a little, the more I searched for them on Instagram, the more I kind of liked the look all together.

So somewhere in between Tom Hardy’s beard, ZZ Top, Duck Dynasty, and Gandalf, are these #BeardGods of Instagram, who may also all be male models {and whom if you’re not careful, will all look like the same guy}.

What are your thoughts on the great big beard?

Too much or just right?

Beards!! I used to dislike but it’s GROWN on me 😉

But seriously, it’s become a serious trend, and good notes on the rest of the appearance of bearded fellows, typically. I’ve always enjoyed a good stubble but not sure I could handle the full on beard for my own man 😛

I find the whole look very sexy. I’m not sure I like big beards on their own, but if the other aspects of this look are there, it works.

I don’t think beards are a trend in the city I live in. Not yet anyway. As far as I’ve noticed, most of them are pretty clean cut. I’m not a beard kinda gal. I don’t mind a bit of scruffiness but it has to be the right amount. It’s kinda cool to see the photos you shared. They’re all clean cut w/ beards. I can see the trend pickin’ up in the city I live in. Maybe in the winter time?

I definitely love facial hair on guys. My husband has a shaved head and always has just the right amount of scruff on his face to balance the bare head. Even though these models are beautiful, I’m still not sure I can get into the full beard look. Something about cuddling together after a long work day and nuzzling up to inches of facial hair is not quite for me. I love these pictures though, and the men really are stunning!

Fun post… I myself was recognized as the guy with best facial hair in the school’s superlatives. A beard with ‘character’ is attractive always. It’s something additional…

Definitely hipster. And unappealing. A little scruff, OK. Full on Duck Dynasty – well, dy nasty.
