As I stated in a previous post, a single room in the new house is yet to be completed. The kitchen is probably the closest to finished but the art remains on the floor leaning against the wall, I am in need of a spice shelf and possibly a great vintage clock …but I’m gonna let you peek inside anyway.
Because we are renting and do not own this adorable little place, we thought we’d spend a minimal amount on upgrades that would really make big differences …and most likely, we’ll be here for a while so it’s worth it and makes it feel more like our own. Also, I kind of got lucky because I wanted a white kitchen with wood floors.
For $99 {and some free time from a super handy and helpful brother and stepdad} we installed a new faucet system by Price Pfister. And a gorgeous orchid and roses from the backyard add life & color. I love the windows in this kitchen. It’s so bright and cheery.
I found this kitchen table online and ordered it before we moved in knowing it would just be perfect for this kitchen. And I was right. I really love it. It has an old farmhouse kind of feel and a bit of a distressed look. The price was right at $512 including delivery for the entire set from DiningTables.com {although assembling it was not so easy} …we found the black canvas/tweed chair pads at Bed Bath & Beyond and they’re great because the back has a no-slip gripper so you don’t need ties. Kelley brought over the beautiful red tulips when she visited on Sunday which sit next to the Areaware Harry Allen “Fruit Bowl” that is always a conversation starter because it’s hilarious. The print leaning against the wall is by William T. Wiley called “Charmin Billy” from 2006 and it was a gift from my boss Christmas 2008.
These long and narrow black shag rugs were actually one very long and narrow piece of carpet that I found at the carpet remnant warehouse for $10. I also picked up a huge gray one for the living room {$65 9×12} and a mixed beige/ivory/brown shag piece {9×7 $45} for the master bedroom. {oh and the kitchen towels are Jonathan Adler -from a couple years ago though}
. . .and it feels like the biggest kitchen in the world compared to the ridiculously small kitchen I dealt with for almost six years! …and I actually have drawers for silverware now instead of the plastic shoe divider I was using {but was actually genius}.
Sometimes it seems the clutter and unfinished-ness of it all is endless but I’m thoroughly enjoying the process. The husband keeps reminding me that we’ve only been here for about 2.5 weeks and when I look at it that way we’ve really come so far. It feels like forever already and it definitely feels like home.
