Organic Olive Oil Hair Sheen Spray: I don’t actually use this on my hair. Not because it’s not great but because any shine product just makes my hair feel greasy to me. So instead, I use this as a body oil …lol. Let me just make it known that I hate applying body lotion. I will ONLY use lotion 1. in the summer and 2. on body parts that are showing in an outfit {i.e., legs/arms} and again only if they’re showing. So, on the days where no arms or legs are showing, I just spray this olive oil all over my body just after drying off with a towel …but while standing in the shower and it works WONDERS! Love it!
Natural Primrose oil: My mom is a health nut! When I was 12 we were on vacation in Oregon visiting my uncle and we had to go somewhere LAME that I didn’t want to go and I was cranky …to say the least. My mom gave me a Primrose oil capsule and in about 15-20 minutes, I was content. It is like natural Xanax. It works wonders especially around your period and will turn your frown upside down.
Bed Head Biggie Maxxed Out Hair Spray BEST. HAIRSPRAY. EVER
Bausch & Lomb Eye Wash otherwise known as magical! This stuff is amazing. If I have any sign of an eye infection or even just an itch, I douse both of my eyes with this refreshing solution and voila! all is cleared up. {note* I don’t wear contacts or glasses, if that makes a difference}
Olive Oil any brand will due. About once a week I smear it all over my face. Yes, I smell like pasta, buy my husband is Italian so he doesn’t actually mind. My mom started using Olive Oil on her skin daily {mixed with water} a couple years ago {she has SUPER sensitive skin} and not only has it helped with lines, her once less than perfect complexion now rarely has a blemish on it.
Purple Shampoo and/or Conditioner For blondes only. I started using purple shampoo years ago when trying to keep my platinum hair from turning yellow and it actually works. I still use it on my more natural color to keep the brassiness away as long as possible. The one shown here is a less expensive option {found at a beauty supply} and the first time I’ve used a conditioner instead of a shampoo. It’s a bit drying but works well when mixed with another conditioner. My favorite shampoo is about $16 and made by Schwarzkopf and I’ll most likely go back to it after this is gone …mostly because it’s less drying.
The most amazing barrette ever Sadly the barrette shown here is the last one I have. I’ve been using these on my thick hair since I was a kid and they are awesome. I used to have three large ones and one half the size which was great too but this is the only one I can find now. I have searched the planet {okay not really} for more but have had no luck. Anyone know where I can get these fab barrettes? In the 80’s many of them had ribbons wrapped around them which cascaded down my tresses. …lol.
{my apologies if you left comments on the last post regarding sneaky and awesome beauty tricks …if you have any awesome tricks you’d like to share, please do so}

Olive oil, really?? I’m in the middle of an eye crisis, but with the skin around my eyes, not the eyeballs themselves (altho that eyewash sounds like a fab idea for my allergies!). The skin is red, puffy (which makes my lines more noticeable!) irritated, sometimes an itchy/burny rash, and the dark circles are horrid… maybe the olive oil will help? I’m trying to find an uber-gentle, soothing moisturizer. Its very annoying – and I don’t feel pretty 🙁

I have used olive oil or even regular vegetable oil on my dry hands for a long time. It works much better than lotion, soaking INTO the skin rather than just coating it. I will try this on my face at your suggestion. My question (before I experiment): do you leave it on or wipe and wash after some time? The spray olive oil hair shine is a great idea for body lotion! I, too, loathe applying lotion- it takes FOREVER!!! Please let me know exactly how you do the face oil, though, I am nearly 30 and already have bad under eye wrinkles so this may help!

I’ve also heard *such* good things about using olive oil on the face (as a cleanser & as a moisturiser). I’m actually struggling at the moment with a more oily t-zone than normal and I’m going to give olive oil a go!
Thanks for the tips!

I don’t like lotion, especially in the winter…too cold for me! I had no idea that olive oil was good for blemishes. My skin is sensitive but oily in places (Combo). I wonder if it’ll work for me? Thanks!

My trick is Argan oil…I guess its similar to olive oil but not really. Helps aging, helps spots, helps acne, its just an all around cure all. I LOVE IT. try it seriously.

I think you might be looking for “Vidal Sassoon Thin Tortoise Barrettes” except I think they used to come in several sizes and yours might be bigger than the ones I’m seeing on Drugstore.com and Walgreens.

I bought the same olive hair sheen and it made my hair oily, so it’s just been sitting in my closet. Now I can finally use it, thanks to your tip! Love your blog, btw! 🙂

Day 2 of using olive oil mixed with water instead of lotion moisturizer, and love it so far! Especially since it is SO hot out right now… I thought it would make me more oily and gross but actually did the opposite.
Thanks Maegan!!!

my friend wrote a book about natural, sustainable beauty and home stuff (it’s called “make your place” by raleigh briggs), and she has a recipe for a face oil that reminds me of what you recommend with olive oil. She has recommendations for what kind of oil to use based on your skin type (I use jojoba oil which is pretty neutral) and then she suggests essential oils to add to achieve the results you want (I use rosemary, bergamot, and tea tree to help with acne). It’s a really neat recipe and the results are amazing, like what you get with your olive oil idea.

Love olive oil for my food, and my skin. I have oily, acne-prone skin. Before I used DHC Deep Cleansing Oil {has olive oil in it}, bit pricey. Now I make my own cleansing oil {70:30 ratio of olive oil to castor oil}. Never makes me break out, removes all makeup including mascara, keeps my skin supple.

I just started using oil on my face, and I have never had such nice skin. And I am 44 years old!! It has taken my combination and easily break out skin and made it soft, I can hardly see my blackheads now, and super clear. You can google OCM and find out more information on the method. The previous comment says it. I use sunflower oil instead of olive, so I imagine most oils will work ok. I just know my skin looks wonderful, feels even better and it’s super easy.

I have scoriacis (sp) on my face and have never found a face lotion that even begins to keep the flakes at bay but I started using Avon eye makeup remover as my face lotion. It is main ingrediant is mineral oil. I still have the uneven skintones but the mineral oil in the makeup remover works wonders for the flakes!
