When it comes to paint, a lot of thought goes into not only selecting the right color, but also in choosing the right brand name. I’m excited to collaborate with Ace Hardware – the authority on color – and to participate in the Ace Paint Studio 31 Days of Color campaign.

I was chosen to reveal the very first color called ‘Safari Sunset’, which is a warm yet bright and rich yellowy-orange. It’s a bold hue but it just so happens to be one of the main color accents in our Reading Room and I thought our old nesting tables could use a pop of color to brighten up the space a bit.

Using painter’s tape, it was easy to create this fun crosswalk stripe, keeping the existing dark wood as the secondary shade. It’s a fun contrast to the green and white and black in the room as well as a nice complement to the groovy print on the pillows. Painting an entire room with this color might be a bit shocking, but an accent wall or used as part of the design on a wall, like stripes geo shapes, or polka dots, would be a fun addition.

Here’s What I Used…

  • Clark + Kensington paint in “Safari Sunset” from the Ace Paint Studio
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Small roller and tray
  • Small wooden nesting table

Steps…

Striped nesting table DIY-3

Most surfaces will need a sanding for your paint to stick. My table is old and a bit stripped, so I skipped that step. It’s also in a room that rarely gets used, so if you’re going to paint this on a table that gets used every day, you’ll need to sand and strip your wood first and finish it with a sealant top coat.

I simply created stripes with painter’s tape on the top and on one of the inside legs, since that’s the one you see when you pass by or walk into the room. I spaced them out about an inch apart free-hand, but if you want more precision, use a ruler and a guide.

I applied three coats of paint with my little roller, letting each coat dry in between, then removed the tape.

Simple!

And… Voila!

A super cute addition to the space and an upgrade to my old nesting tables! I love the look! So simple!
