What I’m Wearing…
* Rusty red jeans by MOTHER Denim (have a similar style in black without the frayed hem – I’d buy these jeans in any color they had… I love the fit and they’re super comfy and flattering – sadly, I think they’re sold out and when I tried the blue/denim color, they didn’t fit the same)
* Camel v-neck sweater by GANT… also seen here and also here… I love this style of sweater actually. It’s a great basic/classic sweater
* Burberry trench coat I’ve had for over a decade now
* Vintage Louis Vuitton bag
* Snakeskin loafers by Madewell (New! – from the Shopbop sale)
* Barton Perreira sunglasses from a few years ago
* Gucci chain necklace… ancient, a gift from the art gallery years ago (my boss was super generous.. I miss my art gallery days)
* Title: Maggie Rogers – Past Life… oh I could feel the world was turnin’ all inside my mind. Oh, maybe there’s a past life coming out inside of me
I am lucky enough to have not one but TWO photographers now and both are not only willing, but usually pretty happy to shoot my outfits for me. The first, of course, is my mom, who has been shooting my outfits since 2016 and has become quite a good photographer in these last years… and the other, is my Man (and I say “man” because I feel far too old calling him my “boyfriend” lol). He loves to shoot and gets really creative with the shots, which I am totally not used to since I’ve been sort of directing my shots since the get-go. He has a really great eye and catches things that I don’t. I generally have my list of things I like to shoot and then he takes it from there and gets way better shots.
My mom and I usually have a really great laugh while we’re shooting, and that’s always fun. Like we get the giggles about something at some point during the shoot (about God knows what) which is why I’m usually smiling in most of the photos she takes, because I’m actually LAUGHING. Which is pretty great. She shot these photos last week and as you can see, I’m all smiles. 🙂
We stopped at this house because it quite literally matched my outfit to the T. The rusty red and ivory-beige combo with the bricks was the literal translation of my look… which of course, we laughed about. And then I totally forget what else we were laughing about, but damn, it was funny.
Anyway, having not one, but TWO willing photographers makes me happy because A. I’m not worried about asking them to shoot my outfit (which I have always been made to feel bad about in the past – as if I was wasting his precious time), B. We actually HAVE FUN and C. The photos turn out so much better and overall it’s just a much nicer experience when you don’t feel like a burden, ya know what I mean?
I do have to say that shooting with the girls is not as easy and we all lose patience pretty quickly, but it’s still new and we’re usually shooting an outfit before we are heading out somewhere and in a bit of a hurry and you know, kids take a lot of patience. But I have a handful of really sweet outfit shoots with them from the summer that I printed for them in their photo album but haven’t shared here. I may someday or I may not. But also, now that it’s chillier up here, it’ll be fun dressing them up in fall/winter styles and taking time to shoot.
They’ll be here this weekend and I’m excited to go to the little pumpkin patch and pick out some pumpkins for us all to carve. I’ve actually been meaning to do it with them for the last two years and the timing never worked out so I have a drawer full of pumpkin carving kits and tools and I’m excited to get creative with them this weekend – Halloween style.
Speaking of creativity… I have had a surge of it lately and it’s making me feel alive. I know that’s a little dramatic, but when you’re a creative person and you feel a lack of creativity for an extended period of time, you start to worry that you’ve lost it all together or that something is “wrong” and then I find myself wondering who the hell I even am anymore.
And then when it all comes rushing back in, I feel like ME again, which is always a comfort and getting lost in little projects always inspires more projects and creativity.
It could just be the time of year though… Halloween always evokes ideas and the fall weather in general tends to kick my creative juices into gear, forcing me to rethink my wardrobe because of the weather. Lovecats, do you get more creative when fall hits… Or is it just me? What season kicks you into creative motion?
These have become my new favorite go-to shoes. They kind of look cute with everything.
Happy Thursday Lovecats!
