Our new sectional sofa finally arrived over the weekend {YAY!} and we are so excited to finally have a new and comfortable couch after living with one lacking that most important element, for the last 8 years. However, the squared angle of it has given me new challenges to work with in this very long room. And while I would have LOVED the ivory/white version of this sofa we sat on in the showroom at Pampa in Sherman Oaks back in November, the dread that would have come over my being every time a human or animal got near it would have sent me over the edge in the sanity department, so we opted for a very dark charcoal color {called Onyx} which is reading a little blue and we are loving it. He for lounging reasons and me for visual reasons {well, and lounging too}.
I’d already decided that beyond the very neutral tones I was going with in this room, blue would be my color pop {see my inspiration board & color palette for this space here} and since I was a bit too chicken to actually buy a blue couch, the fact that this very gray couch reads blue, makes me very happy. I’ve used my two Barclay Butera pillows from our old master bedroom, along with many of the other blue and white porcelain vases and decor in the kitchen, but since the new sofa is so deep {and EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE} it needs a few more pillows for those moments when you don’t want to cozy up and fall asleep on it. But in the mean time, I now am in need of a coffee table, and so happy to be able to use one in a living space since we really haven’t been able to -ever.
I originally saw a great table at Pampa {where we bought the sofa} which had a mix of dark and light wood that I though would tie in our walnut kitchen and very dark dining room table. But it was also very modern and I wasn’t quite sure if I was ready to commit to a modern look when I had so many other option available to me. I was also quite set on a square table thinking it was the only shape that would fit the area right, but I’m open to any now, even a long narrower shape that I can add a few small floor cushions or ottomans around.
Our old sectional was too small for the space and with the chaise on the kitchen-side, closed off the area. I’m very happy the new sectional faces the open kitchen and dining room because it really lends itself to a nice communal area.

Here’s what still needs to be done…
While the husband is looking for a cushy-top coffee table to get his ultimate lounge on, I’d like to be able to style said table with books and knick knacks, and also be able to set beverages on it. I’ve found a few with both options available for the perfect compromise, though I’m not as fond of the overall design of them. My favorites are in the “rustic” category actually, and the last in that group keeps calling my name, though it is wildly expensive and not in the warm woodsy tones I thought would really tie in the other brown woods in the room. I also am planning on changing out the rug. I have a great multicolored/brown tone cow hide my stepdad so generously gave me {or maybe I’m just borrowing it until he wants it back} but either way, I love it and it would look gorgeous under that area. It’s in my office right now and I’m not sure I want to part with it for the living space. I’m also thinking that if anything spills on it, I won’t be a happy camper and the odds of spills are far more likely in the living room, under the coffee table rather than in the sitting area of my office. Decisions, decisions. However, if I go with a lighter/grayer toned table/ottoman, I will need to somehow bring some browns in the rug and pillow and/or floor cushion department. Blah, blah, bla…
