A colleague of mine from the art gallery we both used to work at emails me some of the most fun and fabulous links to fashion and art exhibits at museums pretty regularly… and while most are truly share-worthy, I only sometimes repost, but this one was too gorgeous to pass up. I happen to LOVE vintage costume jewelry, and find it to to be of superior quality, with richer settings and jewels than anything new {or affordable} you can find today. If you’re a good treasure hunter, you can really score amazing pieces for very little cost, relatively, that look like a million bucks. I have a collection of some of my grandma’s great older pieces, but am always on the search for fabulous vintage costume jewelry and gems. Sometimes it’s a secret vendor at flea markets, many times it’s a hole in the wall thrift shop, and oftentimes it’s Ebay.
Featuring more than 450 stunners from her 4,000 piece collection, Fashion Jewelry: The Collection of Barbara Berger exhibit at MAD through April 20, 2014, shows some truly exquisite pieces of couture and costume jewelry from decades of designers, and is accompanied by a book with the same title: Fashion Jewelry: The Collection of Barbara Berger. I guess when you’re the daughter of a diamond merchant, collecting sparkly things is in your DNA.
The exhibition has been on display since last June, so you may have already seen some of her collection, but here are a few of the stunners I’m in love with but I wish I could see them all!
