I FINALLY watched La La Land over the weekend and have to say… I was strangely saddened at the end, and I’m not sure why really. I don’t want give away any spoilers for those who haven’t seen it (so stop reading now), but I just can’t put my finger on the reason why it made me cry… especially because I was in a fine mood.
Yes, love stories are supposed to end happily, with the two leads living happily ever after -blah, blah, blah… and that I can get over, which is why I was so confused as to why I was so upset when the movie ended.
I can handle a twist, but this was just… I dunno. I was left feeling empty, and saying, that’s it? And while it was a good movie, I still am not quite sure why it was nominated so heavily last Oscar season.
Most love stories and romantic comedies and well, many movies, I’ll watch over and over again. There’s a certain comfort in watching the same movies over and over again AND I like to catch all the foreshadowing and things I missed the first time around on the next, I dunno, 5-10 views -if I really liked it, but I have to say, I probably won’t watch this movie ever again.
I hate to give something such a harsh review, because really, it was a good movie… it was visually beautiful, the actors were great, I generally LOVE movies based in LA and even typical Hollywood plot lines, but it just left such a bad taste in my mouth… and still, I’m not sure why.
If you saw it, what did you think about it? How did it make you feel? Help me understand why I ended up hating it when it was actually a good film?
Happy Monday Lovecats!
