Happy Monday Lovecats!
I don’t know about you, but I watch a lot of YouTube.
I mean, what is A LOT though? I guess it’s all relative (and it’s been raining/snowing all weekend so factor that in)… but I definitely have my morning with coffee videos category and my early evening videos category that are completely different. But what I like about YouTube vs Netflix, let’s just say, is that I feel like I’m learning something when I’m watching YouTube, like I’m studying or researching or learning something new. At least that’s what I like to believe, which is far different from simply being entertained by any Netflix show I might be currently watching, which just so happens to be Ginny & Georgia (season 2)… my late at night, getting ready for bed and possibly stretching and need something on that is light and won’t get my brain too fired up before trying to rest show (prior to Ginny & Georgia it was Emily in Paris season 3) and both shows I thoroughly enjoyed for those reasons mentioned above.
ANYWAY… here are just a few informative videos I watched this weekend that I thought you might find interesting as well.
Because it’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I thought I’d start with a clip of the powerful I Have a Dream speech delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States (in case you somehow weren’t aware).
I have a dream that my 4 little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character… I have a dream today…We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.. let freedom ring.
I think watching it is a nice way to remember, celebrate and honor MLK and his contribution to the world we live in today… though I still believe (as I’m sure he would too) that there is far more work to be done in the cause for equality.
IN OTHER MLK NEWS: Have you seen the ‘The Embrace’: Martin Luther King Jr. memorial unveiled in Boston …a giant bronze sculpture that I feel had good intentions but sort of missed the mark? The Embrace is a beautiful idea but why not include their heads and faces?! I had to see if I was alone in this questioning and behold, I was not. Watch Martin Luther King “Embrace” Statue In Boston Looks… DIFFERENT! with Anthony Brian Logan for another perspective.
Blade Runner 2049 Tried To Warn You
This was an incredibly thorough movie review connecting our modern life with a dystopian post-modernism future that seems pretty relevant to our present day (I mean, metaphorically since we’re not QUITE there technologically, but damn close). I watched the original Blade Runner years ago, but didn’t make it through this one, even with Ryan Gosling as the lead 😋 However, now, after watching this, I want to give it another go, depressing as it may be and take notes!
And while we’re on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and other terrifying ideas…
M3GAN – The Eye Opening Hidden Meaning THIS SECRET Will Blow Your Mind
Let me first start by saying if you’re not familiar with this YouTuber, note that he’s definitely a personality and throws a lot of (what feels like) randomness during his talk. However, if you’ve watched is mostly spiritual, positive and uplifting videos, you’d know that this is part of his shtick, for lack of better word… Though I do subscribe to his channel, I don’t consume ALL of his content, but when this review of the new sci-fi, horror film, M3GAN popped up on my home screen, I had to check it out.
First of all, I wasn’t aware this movie existed and obviously the name, being the same as mine though spelled differently, I was intrigued. He goes on to speak about how the film is phenomenal in raising thought-provoking questions about AI and how we are kind of already in the midst of it all happening around us and how the movie is simply a warning. When we give tech absolute power, that we don’t even fully understand AND it has the ability to learn and becomes sentient, has a mind of its own and supersedes human intellect… what do we do then? Movies sort of have this way of “normalizing” things so that we aren’t so shocked when they happen in the future… and honestly, this is already happening. Let’s just hope it all ends well.
Vice “debates” Feminism…and has to disable their comments 🥴 | Khadija Mbowe
I LOVE Khadija Mbowe… I think I originally found her on TikTok but have since subscribed and watch all of her YouTube’s because I love getting her perspective on current issues… probably because it’s often aligned with my own, however, I obviously gain so much insight on POC perspective, which I don’t have experience with being a white woman. She’s so thorough and thoughtful and gives in-depth discussions I LOVE listening to. This one is about the recent VICE debate which was basically edited women yelling at each other and more of an argument than a debate used to get clicks.
The 6 Steps To BOOST BRAIN HEALTH & Reverse Cognitive DECLINE | Dr. Daniel Amen
Tom Bilyeu is another channel I am subscribed to and watch frequently. He always has very interesting guests who mainly talk about physical and/or mental health and I often get very useful information from them. This one with Dr. Daniel Amen popped up on my home feed the other morning and started playing before I even got out of bed… and within minutes I was texting my mom the link. Totally worth the watch if you’re interested in brain health 🙂
Let me know if you found any of these helpful and if you have any recommended viewing or channels I should subscribe to!
