Feeling a little crafty the other day, I went to Intermix to see if something would knock me off my feet and inspire me to get to DIYing something fabulous… but instead I found a ton of great fall fashion inspiration and actually got excited to get dressed again.
Throughout quarantine I’ve had a daily uniform of a handful of summer dresses, my coveralls and boyfriend jeans… that is, IF I left the house. Inside the walls of quarantine, it’s been nothing but sweats and shorts and leggings… and while it has been quite comfortable, I’m ready to dust off my clothes hanging sadly in my closet and show them a little love again.
I’d like to think that is a metaphor for our actual lives right now, but to be honest, I’m not sure we’ll ever go back to “normal” even if/when the trappings of COVID come to an end. But hopefully, eventually, we can create a new normal that is better than ever and start to feel alive again and find that life is thriving and beautiful instead of scary and anxiety-inducing.
It just feels like fall came with a gust of fresh air and hope for a new world.
Too heavy for a fall fashion post? Probably, but I’m optimistic 🙂
Anyway, here are a few simple fall looks that have got my style juices flowing and may inspire you too.
Classic with a twist…
Not much more than a simple jeans and a sweater look, but the high waist, tucked sweater and boots with the dip in the front add a fun retro twist on a classic and easy fall favorite.

Hanging on to summer…
I love the idea of wearing all the dresses before the snow falls and adding a chunky oversized textured coat feels like the perfect way to do just that.

Crop til you drop
This look is already a staple for me… the cropped jeans with a hint of flare at the bottom with a boot (or vans while it’s still warm enough like this outfit) and a sweater for fall (like this outfit) and it will probably be a uniform if and when we’re able to open Dogwood Tavern again.

No way to control it, it’s totally… Monochromatic
Do you see what I did with the title there?? 🙂 Well if you’re a Pointer Sisters fan, you might… Anyway, I LOVE this look. I have nowhere to where it YET, but I want to create something similar for fall ASAP!

A hint of urban cowboy…
I ADORE this look. It’s a simple jeans and sweater but in the monochromatic tones with the metallic snakeskin boots just gives it this fun, sexy, disco, urban cowboy feel. LOVE!

70s/80s mixup…
This is a fun look that I’d probably add tights to. 1. Because I’m not 20 and 2. Because it’s going to be too cold for shorts, even if they’re leather and even WITH a turtleneck. I’m not sure it’s 100% me, but I feel like it’s been years since I dressed for fun instead of function, with the exception of Halloween and themed parties at Dogwood. I have to say I had a lot more fun with fashion when I lived in LA.

* I have a similar vintage striped turtleneck from the 70s I’ve had for ages (you can see it here with overalls) so I can’t wait to try a look like this… even if I go with pants instead of shorts.
Acid 80s…
This look is a bit of stretch for me, but I still liked it. I actually have a pair of vintage black acid wash Levis, but the fit is different and more flattering… however, I don’t think I can get in them, but if I can, I’ll grab my biker jacket and boots and call it a day.

Keepin’ it real…
Okay, this look (or something similar) is probably something we’ve worn before and doesn’t need much inspiration for, but the fact that this cardigan is over $3200 made me stop dead in my tracks… and since there are great looks for less and options we probably have in our own closets already, I thought it couldn’t hurt to get a little inspo from it.

Belt it up…
And last, but certainly not least, a look that I always love… a little belted blazer over a floral dress. Mountain life doesn’t take kindly to long skirts and dresses, or maybe they’ve just been on the back-burner for the last few years, but I always love transitioning into fall by layering my maxi dresses and skirts and I’m thinking this fall I want to try it again.

Well, Lovecats, are you excited about fall or no? Are you starting to feel like life is almost normal again, or no?
Happy Monday!
