Whether it be a new silhouette, an old silhouette that feels new again, a color scheme, or a fine detail, flipping through upcoming designer collections is always something that inspires me to look through my own closet with a freshly creative eye. When past decades become of-the-moment again, rummaging through thrift shops or vintage stores is key to getting the look for a fraction of the cost and also gaining a bit of originality from a unique vintage piece. I love knowing that I’m the only one with a particular item, which is why I am such a fan of vintage.
So, without further ado, here are my favorites from the Pre-fall runway collections {because it’s still chilly and we’re still wearing cold-weather clothes} …keeping in mind, it may not be the entire look that inspires me but more a detail from one, a shoe from another, a new pant leg, etc. {& not in any particular order}
Proenza Schouler
Alexander Wang
TSE
Burberry Prorsum
Chanel
Zac Posen
Sportmax
Monique Lhuillier
Thakoon
Luca Luca
Diane von Fürstenberg
Most of the collections fall into one of two themes: a 70’s throwback and/or a 90’s minimalist throwback, but a few {Luca Luca & DVF} have a touch of 60’s going on as well. My favorite overall collections were Burberry Prorsum & Diane Von Furstenberg.
And because Tom Ford never misses in my book, below {if you haven’t seen it already} is Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection which is really more like a stage production than a runway show. I love how Tom stands on stage but just off to the side for the entire event. Hands down, Tom Ford knows how to dress a woman & make her feel like the most fabulous woman to walk the Earth …I would wear anything he designed. He has a seemingly “Bond Girl” muse for everything he ever does and maybe that’s why I love him so much. He has been my favorite since he remade Gucci in 1995.
