You had me at Fall…
The days are getting shorter and the nights a bit chillier and the sunlight through the trees casts a warm glow onto the streets and in through our windows and you just know the leaves are about to change color and begin falling and everything will be magical again… phew!
I don’t generally decorate too much for fall. However, I do love adding a few quick upgrades to my home to just bring the season inside a little bit for a warm and cozier feel. My fall home decor style is simple and understated and takes me through Halloween, Thanksgiving, and all the way to Christmas because I can add and remove decor details in between while my basics remain.
I don’t know about you, but my husband really appreciates the seasonal changes I make to our home, which makes it a little more fun for me to decorate as well. He says it feels festive and in the moment and exciting to anticipate winter and the coming holiday months. With football season and our wedding anniversary kicking it off, we toasted this fabulous season with a little Ecco Domani Prosecco while decorating.
It feels a bit silly but it’s genius as well; my wreath and outdoor “fall” flowers are all fake! The small touches add so much to our front door and being able to just store them until the next fall season when I whip them out, dust them off, and use them again, not only saves money but time too!
I have these two matching fall themed bouquets in gold pots that I found as a pair at a thrift shop and are perfect for either side of the door. I added a few pinecones around the edges, which I picked up randomly over the years to add a little more texture to the area. I’ve had my fall berries and leaves wreath for what seems like a century and though each year when I pull it out, I lose a few more berries to age, it’s still going strong. This year I grabbed a few tassels in warm, rich hues and added them to the door for a little extra something and I just love the formal and chic effect.
Moving Indoors…
Decorating inside the house is even simpler.
In addition to the spiced candles the husband always brings home come fall {HE’s the one OBSESSED with all things PUMPKIN SPICE, just for the record ;)}, I grabbed a few sweet potted orange flower plants at the grocery store for $5.99 each and placed them around the house for the perfect pop of warm color. They immediately add that fall feeling with very little trouble at all. I set a few of them in a basket on the table next to a few stuffed pumpkins, but I keep moving it from the fireplace to the table and back when we need the space.
The flowers originally came wrapped in brown paper, which works just fine, but since I have so many little pots from past orchids, I easily removed the paper and dropped a few into colorful pots. Rather than removing my regular decor, I have placed three alongside my entry console shelves to add a little color and even added a few more fall essentials. They’re easy, fun, affordable, and will last longer than cut flowers and brighten up the space for the entire season. Come winter, when they lose all their buds, I can plant them outside so they’ll bloom next spring. I love that!
Living in a location where I get to anticipate the seasons is really fun and I look forward to each almost as if I get to experience it for the first time. It’s still such an exciting idea for this LA girl, and I hope that never changes, though the seasons always will.
Cheers to 9 Years!
We celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary on September 4th {woo!} and since the husband usually handles our anniversary plans and dinner reservations on our actual day, I decided to surprise him with one of his favorite meals the night before for a pre-anniversary anniversary dinner at home.
Italian dishes are among his favorites, so I made a simple chicken parmesan for two, complete with a Caesar salad and {pre-made} breadsticks {because I’m lazy but also because they’re his favorite}, and for a little something fizzy, Ecco Domani Prosecco to drink.
Yummmmmm…
He LOVED It!
I love Ecco Domani Prosecco because it’s perfect with dinner AND desserts… & everything in between!
While I had planned to make him his favorite dessert {cake pops} I ran out of time, so I grabbed a few fluffy pastries and cupcakes at the market and we enjoyed the sugar rush with a little more wine.
When we began clearing the table, we caught Trevor having a Lady and the Tramp moment of his own… how he managed to get one single noodle into his mouth like this is beyond me, but I was sure happy to capture it with my iPhone!
Have you added any fun fall elements to your home yet?
