I just found this draft of a post I created from 12/5/2008 and I’m not quite sure why I never hit “publish” . . .but what I thought then, I think is even more apparent now which is …the world is fascinated with balloons right now …and not only balloons, pastel or faded looking balloons …and while they are whimsical, dreamy, adorable, and rather refreshing, I’m not sure I’m completely on board with them having any relevance in anything at all …though maybe in these unsettled times we are all wishing we were as free as a balloon, floating up into the sky without a care in the world.

When my brother was born in 1982 my mom decorated his nursery with a pastel plaid wallpaper in blues, yellows and greens and in a balloon theme {with teddy bears I think}. In fact, I remember a ceramic hand {or fist, rather} in powder blue and two ceramic balloons in a soft yellow and green that she hung on the wall and placed either ribbons or yarn from them and through the hand. She may have even painted them in my grandfather’s shop. That I cannot remember, but I do remember loving my brother’s little pastel balloon-filled room. And it did have a sense of freedom that I cannot explain.
