Leather can be an intimidating material to work with, but if you have the right tools, it’s actually pretty simple and straightforward, and can totally enhance the look with simple design elements. I love how it can transform a completely modern kitchen and give it a bit of warmth and rustic character, with the littlest effort. The finishes don’t even have to be extravagant and can simply consist of a nailhead, hook, or bolt.
Instead of buying an entire hide, you can find raw leather straps that are pre-cut for any of the projects I’ve featured here. The beauty of these projects is in the raw leather color, so you don’t even have to treat the straps or stain them, because they look best their natural color. The raw leather will darken over time from the elements and the oils on your hands and become a bit of a golden color, which just adds more character to the design.
