I mean, who doesn’t love a good candle? The scent, the ambiance, the magic in the flicker of the flame… aahh, it’s relaxing just thinking about it.
I don’t go too crazy with candles, but I do have my favorite scents and I was excited to receive my Sib-lings DIY candle set in Scent No.6 a smoky sandalwood with comforting cardamom and slightly sweet vanilla because if you know me, you know I smell like vanilla and love most vanilla scents, and this one did not disappoint! In fact, upon opening the bag, the scent brought me back to some time and place in my past that I still cannot put my finger on and though my brain and nose will be in overdrive, sniffing endlessly until I figure it out, it’s okay because I LOVE THIS SCENT.
Anyway, Sib-lings offers a simple DIY candle kit that literally anyone can do and since I’d never made my own candle, I was excited to try this out… here’s how I did it.
Simple Steps…
Grab your vessel – or anything you’d like to turn into a candle (jelly jar, ceramic vase, or quirky teacup could all work well)! I happened to have a few of these silver and gold speckled “vessels” laying around, which I’ve used in the past for tea lights, and since my office bathroom has silver accents, I thought the silver specked option was the perfect touch to finish off my space.
P R E P
When you receive your Sib-lings candle kit, it comes with a sealed bag of hard candle wax in your preferred scent and when you open the bag you’ll find the wick and a little wooden stick to keep your wick in place.
Grab your vessel, slide the wick through the hole in the wooden stick and set it the center bottom of your vessel.
M E L T
Microwave the eco-friendly, scented wax in its plant-based packaging to melt it with the bag open.
P O U R
Carefully pour the melted wax into your vessel.
* TIP: I had a little issue with my wick not standing straight up at first so once the wax sealed a little at the bottom and I knew it was dead center, I was able to bend the wick the other way to get it to straighten out.
LET IT SET
Let your new candle solidify for two hours… don’t touch it!
E N J O Y!
Trim the wick, and that’s it! Light and enjoy!
And… Voila!
This was really such a simple, fun and gratifying little project that smells wonderful and makes me smile every time I see it and light it because… I made it!
I think this would make a really fun gift for so many occasions and you can include a vessel or let them choose their own style.
Happy Tuesday Lovecats!
