Lake House Update | Beachy Guest Room BEFORE and Choosing Paint Colors with Sherwin Williams…

beachy guest bedroom before Looks oddly similar to our old master bedroom, no? 😉

I tend to be one of those people who doesn’t paint every room in her house a different color. I like neutrals, I like consistency, and I don’t like walking into a room of a house that doesn’t look like it fits with the rest of the house. But our house now is a little bigger than any we’ve lived in before and has so much potential to be more than just sandstone, which was the color of every singe wall when we moved in. And, while I love it for a few rooms, it’s a little boring for every room.

When we moved in, I had my office painted a light silvery gray/blue and our master bedroom painted a deep purply gray, and other than having my closet and ceiling beams slathered with fresh coats of bright white, that was it. At the time, I only had a vague idea of what the four other {small} bedrooms upstairs would be used for and how they would each be decorated.

At the end of our long, slanted upstairs hallway are two rooms separated by a bathroom, which we designated as our “guest quarters,” LOL. Since we don’t have kids, we have plenty of space for guests, and now that we’re living in a land far, far away, guest rooms are a must.

I knew the larger of the two guest rooms was going to inherit all of our old master bedroom’s beach-inspired decor in blues with brown furniture. In fact, I knew when we bought it all for our old house, it would eventually end up in a guest room, so I had a head start there and recently installed the bamboo shades on the windows. But I had no intention of painting the room until BlogHer approached me about this opportunity to work with Sherwin-Williams, and now I’m actually really excited to give this room a finished look.

But what color to paint?

The walls in our old master bedroom were a similar sandy hue to the one on the walls in the guest room now, but I remember LOVING how our backyard pool reflected blue into the room, cascading watery shadows all over the walls, so I immediately was thinking in the light blue hues.

I went to the Sherwin-Williams website and was drawn to the Chip It!™ feature, where you can find your perfect color palette in seconds by uploading photos to it. FUN! I dragged the Chip It! button onto my toolbar then went directly to my nautical, Beachy Blues Pinterest board to find my favorite rooms for inspiration. I couldn’t believe how fun and easy it was to use Chip It!

Here are a few of my inspiration photos with color palettes generated by Chip It!

Then I sort of went for the color that was common in all of them, a bold but lighter shade of blue.

But they all still seemed a bit dark…

So, I clicked on the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer to compare and contrast my blues and kept landing on “Blissful Blue,” and since the room was to be a relaxing beachy lake getaway, the name was perfect.

But when I opened it on my iPad and brought it upstairs into the room, “Blissful Blue” seemed a bit too dark still, so I went back to the color visualizer one last time, opted for one shade up, and finally chose…

And, of course, I hired my favorite painting team, Mike Zweber ~ Z Painting (909) 273-0466, to do the job for me because, while I have patience with so many projects, painting walls is not high on that list!

And I can’t wait to show you the final results… but here’s a little something for you first!
