A few weeks ago, in collaboration with Target and Mode Media, I posted Target Style Real Talk Test Drive – You Choose For Me where I was offered a few new products from Target to test out and asked you guys to tell me which one you wanted me to review for you.
The NYX Purple Mascara was the highest voted item, with the faux leather leggings coming in a close second. But since I already have a pair of faux leather leggings, I was pretty excited your choice was the purple mascara, because I wanted to try it too. So I ordered my mascara at Target.com, since I’m about two hours away from a Target store now {which is totally depressing, of course} and because it’s such a popular item, it was backordered and I just received it a few days ago.
Excited to give it a test drive, I applied it right away…
I began by curling my short, blonde eyelashes to give them a boost, then applied a shimmery gold shadow to my lids to really make the purple pop, and applied a few coats of NYX Purple Mascara to my top and bottom lashes. My results were pretty subtle actually, and perfect for a day look. You could only tell my lashes were purple from close up, or a quick side glimpse, and they made my eye color pop without much work.
However, since I’m not a huge fan of lipstick on a daily basis {because it’s a lot of maintenance to keep looking great} I like to play up my eyes as my facial focal point.
To give them a boost, I added a bit of darker shimmer shadow on my lids to create a little more depth, applied another coat of purple, then brushed on a few fibers to extend my lashes and make them fuller, then topped them off with another coat of NYX Purple Mascara and LOVED the look. It was really fun to get out of my comfort zone of wearing warm neutrals and brighten up with a bit of gold shimmer and purple lashes. It actually made me feel a little more cheery all day just knowing my lashes were lavender.
* Overall, the NYX Purple Mascara is a really pretty purple, and goes on a little light at first, which is nice for a subtle hint of purple for everyday wear.
* If you want a really bright pop of purple, applying a white base coat to your lashes prior to your purple coat, would do the trick.
* Instead of bright, I went a little darker by brushing on a few black fibers to add length to my lashes and by finishing it off with more purple, it added a really lush and fun, but deeper purple look. Using purple’s complementary color, gold, assures the best possible color combinations for both.
