It’s not until I do a round up archived post like this when I realize just how much content resides under this domain… and how many different outfits as well. It’s crazy to think that I’ve been writing this blog for 10 years now and doing outfit posts for about 9 -since I didn’t start sharing my outfits until Spring 2008 I think… but I love that I still have and love and wear so many of the same items I’ve been wearing since then AND FROM BEFORE THEN as well.
It makes the environmentalist inside me smile and sort of validates my eye for timeless fashion that holds up visually and functionally, decade through decade.
This vintage military coat, for instance, I’ve had since I was about 19 I think. I may have gotten it when I was around 21 though (roughly somewhere between 1996-1998), but it’s been in my possession for about twenty years and I still wear it every single fall and winter because it’s a classic timeless coat that really never goes out of style.
And the only true reason I know it’s a standard issue “military” coat (more than just the style of it) is based on the label that was once inside and the reason I know it was vintage when I bought it was based on the material used to make it and the style of the lapels.
My favorite part about this coat though, is that I found it at the Melrose Trading Post for $35… and then had it dry-cleaned for about $10 I think. So twenty years ago, I bought this vintage coat for $45 and since then have restitched the buttons on it (notice the two in the center are brown because I couldn’t find a grey match!) and fixed the hem on the lining… one time about ten years ago. I’m telling you, this coat is a champion. And I love it. If you ever find such a gem, buy it and wear it for the rest of your life 🙂
