I love how bright and airy this house is. I love it’s lightness and mood, and I love the hint of contemporary with the rustic. I think though, that lately I’m just drawn to the rustic modern aesthetic at all times because it’s the theme of Dogwood Tavern and since that’s where my focus is, that’s what I’m attracted to (or attracting) as well.
Last week’s Sunday House Crush was similar but slightly more formal and had a more interesting exterior that felt a little bit like a storybook house in a fairytale. I think the interior architecture and layout of this home show up the exterior, but the location near the water and the lake view are both giant plusses. (Any home that is on the lake or this close is generally over a million.)
I love the stonework on the fireplace and how sort of cozy-casual this home is, and it could be entirely because of the decor. Though I would change a few things, allowing a home to speak to you while thinking about decorating and design is so important in creating consistency and flow throughout the space. Just because you love a certain item (or color or theme) doesn’t mean it’s going to look good in a specific setting. If you allow the space to reveal what it needs, you’ll get a far more pleasing result visually and energetically… and a home that you love to be in.
