There’s something about this manicure that I am utterly obsessed with. I think it’s the perfect combination of subtle yet loud, ladylike but rebellious, mainstream but counter culture… and I just adore it. It’s so easy, I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it sooner, and I’m sure it’s been done before for the same simple reason, but I don’t think I’ve seen it, but you know how inspiration works, it’s possible. My husband has even mentioned that it is is favorite manicure I’ve ever done, so it’s a win for girls and guys alike.
The fleshy skin tone polish blends perefctly with my fingers making it look like the X’s are literally X-ing out my fingernails and I can’t get enough. I wonder if it would have the same effect in different color combos? I’m guessing not so much, but I may have to try it out just to see.
Here’s What I Used…
* Sally Hansen “Cafe au Lait”
* Black polish with nail art fine brush
NOTE: You can use any black polish with a separate long/fine nail art brush
Steps…
This is a fairly obvious and easy manicure, so a step by step photo tutorial wasn’t really necessary. But here’s what I did, just in case you need assistance.
1. Apply 2-3 coats of your flesh tone or nude polish and let dry.
2. Using a narrow nail art brush, drag and sweep on your X beginning at the cuticle on one side and moving upward diagonally, finishing at the tip and repeating the step on the other side to create your large X. Do NOT make them perfect by using tape or worrying one bit about staying in the lines. They should all be different… and very IMPERFECT. Because that’s the point.
3. Finish with your favorite top coat. Mine is Seche Vite
Have Fun!
