Just in time for my seemingly monthly Barbie beauty feature, artist Nickolay Lamm has yet again brought us another fascinating study on the wildly inaccurate bodily proportions of a Barbie doll compared to those of a healthy young woman.
I just LOVE looking through the artist’s comparison photos. I think Nickolay’s version looks modern, fit, and healthy, and I don’t see why the toy market doesn’t have room for dolls that represent a more well-rounded vision of the world around us.

I’m going to be honest, I had never looked at a barbie and felt bad about myself for not looking like her. I never even thought of that until I became a mother and everyone else started talking about it. Does that make me abnormal?

I never felt bad about myself because of Barbie either. I never felt bad about myself until kids at school started picking on me. Even now as a mother, my son plays Barbies with his girl cousin and I don’t worry that he thinks women should look like Barbie.
I don’t think it’s about the doll, I was taught by my parents that I should be proud of who I am and how I look. I am teaching my son that all people are individuals and look different. The media and Barbie only affect children if the parents let it.

The Barbie on the right looks a lot better/more beautiful IMO. I don’t like looking too thin/slim. I like looking ‘healthier’.

I would absolutely have to agree with you! Interesting comparison though, so very happy someone did this!
