Sometimes it’s really the littlest things that make all the difference in the world!
When my mom and stepdad moved into their house last year, they vowed to eventually switch out all the brass doorknobs and hardware that the old owners left behind, because let’s just say, it’s the house of BRASS. But as with any project, things get pushed aside and priorities find themselves in other areas of the home where function is more important than design.
When Schlage® reached out and asked if I wanted to change out my doorknobs, as a part of their recently launched a campaign, “Open Possibilities,” to bring door hardware to the forefront as an accessory that can complete or enhance the look of any room, I immediately thought of my parent’s house. This was the perfect way to get a little jumpstart on their de-brassing project, and I was so happy to get to help them in even the littlest way.
My mom browsed the doorknob selection and loved the dark oil rubbed bronze Plymouth knobs, which have a bit of an industrial feel, to replace her kitchen door, her pantry door, and both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. Speaking of the industrial feel, the trend has begun to edge away from encompassing a whole room to embracing accessories that can be mixed in with other trends. Schlage® door hardware is the perfect finishing touch to complete the look and feel my mom wanted in her home.
Changing out doorknobs is actually really super simple and such an easy way to enhance the design in your home without having to do much work at all. It only takes a screwdriver, a little elbow grease and about five to ten minutes to completely upgrade each door.
They loved the look and were so happy to get rid of the large brass eyesores they’d begun to hate in the last year. I’m so happy to have gotten to do this since they’ve been so helpful to me always, but in this last year especially. Anything I can do to give back makes me happy. And when they’re happy, it’s even better.
See the before/afters below…
The dark oil-rubbed Plymouth knobs complement the fireplace in this space.
The dark knobs also complement the black appliances and accents in their kitchen.
The sleek doorknobs just make the bathrooms look cleaner and a little more modern.
I grabbed a tassel from my mom’s guest room and hung it on the door… she said she’s going to keep it there.
I love that. Switching out all the knobs to match throughout the house is something I think really ties everything together for a seamless design. It’s a simple and inexpensive way to give your house a little upgrade with very little time, expense, and effort.
