If you happened to have read this post then you’d know that along with two amazing partners, I’m opening a bar/restaurant up here in the mountains called Dogwood Tavern… AND I’M RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED ABOUT IT.
It all began late last summer and by the end of October we finally secured the amazing space in Blue Jay (just minutes from Lake Arrowhead) which had been The Royal Oak for over 30 years -prior to closing in 2013.
The building is HUGE (nearly 3800sqft) and it’s a really incredible space, but needed a ton of work to upgrade and bring it up to code. We also wanted to give it an entirely new look that fit our aesthetic, but that also stayed true to the mountain vibe, while keeping a few of the iconic details the Royal Oak was known for.
We’ve been doing most of the work ourselves, spending days and nights renovating the building and the space, and it’s really amazing watching our vision slowly come to life. But before I share any of the changes we’ve made, you have to see what it looked like before to get a feel for the place.

A Few Early Changes…
We removed the glass wall on the partial bar and opened up the wall that separated the two large rooms to allow for better energy flow and visuals from every angle.
