This year Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday, which is a total bummer because well, IT’S A MONDAY! In an effort to save this fun holiday from the dreadful work week, Familia Camarena is asking YOU to take the pledge to celebrate Cindo de Mayo on Saturday May 3rd instead and #SAVECINCO!
I’ve partnered with them to help spread the word and get pledges to #SAVECINCO {I took the pledge as well, of course!} but also to create a yummy tequila cocktail to commemorate the event with. They sent me their signature mixology kit including a gorgeous bottle of Familia Camarena 100 Agave Silver Tequila, a citrus squeezer, a jigger, a muddler, and a shaker to help get me started.
When I think of tequila, shots or a variety of flavored margaritas come to mind, which are tasty, but I wanted to create a tequila drink that was just a little bit different and less sugary than your average cocktail. Camarena Silver Agave Tequila has hints of sweet vanilla {my favorite!} so I reached for sweet tart green apples and mint rather than citrus flavors and the usual limes, and mixed in coconut pineapple water instead of a sugary liqueurs, sodas or syrups.
And let me just say, YUMMMM! This drink IS DELICIOUS, unexpected and totally refreshing, the perfect cocktail for spring and summer, and my new favorite mixed drink!
Here’s What I Used…
* Familia Camarena 100 Agave Silver Tequila
* Pure Coconut Water with Pineapple
* Fresh Green Apples
* Fresh Mint
* Lime Flavored Cocktail Rimming Sugar
* Ice
NOTE: If you’re not a fan of coconut water, you may want to simply use pineapple juice instead, but it will be much sweeter.
Here’s How I Made It…
* Add apple slices {about half of a small green apple/remove the skins and cut into smaller squares}, 4-5 mint leaves {no stems!}, and a few pinches of lime sugar into your shaker for a little sweetness.
NOTE: If you’re going sugar-free, you can skip the lime sugar and still create a refreshing cocktail!
* Muddle ingredients by pressing straight down and twisting rather than smashing and shredding.
* Add 2 ounces of Familia Camarena 100 Agave Silver Tequila and 3 ounces {or more if you need to} of coconut pineapple water and stir.
* Add ice and shake, shake, shake!
* When your shaker is frosty, it’s time to serve!
* Wet the rim of your glass and dip it in your lime sugar, then pour the contents of your shaker into your glass.
* You can choose to strain it so your drink is clean, but I like it with all the goodies mixed in. Makes two cocktails… one for you and one for a friend! Get cute by adding an apple slice on the edge as a garnish!
And… Enjoy!
Have Fun and SAVE CINCO!
