By the end of last summer, I had spent a few months really trying to figure out how to not only meditate, but how to make it part of my daily routine, just like brushing my teeth is. I read books and articles on line but as I would sit in silence, my mind racing and wandering and then judging, I found it a very difficult task. I’d go about three days in a row, where I’d sit and try to meditate, then forget or lose interest, or assume I wasn’t doing it correctly, and just stop.

And randomly last August I saw an ad for the Oprah & Deepak 21 Day Meditation Experience Expanding Your Happiness, which was free and delivered to your inbox daily for 21 days and thought it was the perfect way to not only learn how to meditate, but to commit to it daily and hope to turn it into a habit.

I made it through the entire program, only missing a day or two and then searched for more guided meditations to listen to afterward. By November, I could honestly feel a change in my headspace, in my mind, in the way I thought, and in my overall being and a lessened sense of anxiety and fear and more positive and strong self talk, and I was {and still am} truly amazed by it.

In November, Oprah & Deepak offered another 21 Day Meditation Experience: The Energy of Attraction and I registered and didn’t miss a day. After this challenge was over, I purchased and downloaded two different 21 day challenges and the iPhone app and continue to listen to them daily.

Every morning when I wake up, the very first thing I do is grab my phone, tap my meditation app and meditate for 20 minutes, laying in bed, doing nothing special {though I have been known to fall back to sleep on occasion}. I still find the guided meditations helpful for my routine, but throughout the day, I find myself doing quicky-minute meditations, chanting to myself usually, and finding balance in those moments.

The thing about mediation is -it takes time to see results. Sure it will maybe make you calmer in that moment, right after you’ve finished, but I found an overall calmness and clarity of mind and stillness wash over me about a month and a half into meditating daily. I’m telling you…. it has changed me. It has changed my life. I cannot tell you exactly how, but it’s incredible.
