I was introduced to The Colorful Wild through longtime blogging friend, Holly (@hollyconda on Instagram), who shared a photo of her two adorable kids with “girlprenuer” Avery, who started her very own organic lip balm brand and is totally crushing it.
Since I was immediately motivated by this little entrepreneur, I thought you might be too… because how can you not?

She even created a mood board for the design which you can see on her Instagram which was brought to life by Kimmie Torgerson.

Eager to find out more about Avery’s budding business, I clicked all the links and tags I could on Instagram hoping to find a little more about her and instantly found Girls Crushing It, an organization that inspires girls to flex their leadership muscles through entrepreneurship.
Their girlpreneurs learn the skills necessary to run a business — culminating in a functioning market where they sell their products.
GIRLS CRUSHING IT’s mission is to empower girls to flex their leadership muscles through entrepreneurship which will equip them to take on any challenge. Their goal is to increase the pipeline of women business leaders.
I think this is so amazing! Not only do I wish I had thought of it, I wish it was available when I was a kid because it would have helped me immensely. I always felt like an outsider… would talk about my dreams/visions/goals and what I wanted to do and accomplish and mostly, people would look at me with a confused look on their face. It always made me feel stupid, like I had said something silly (though I always had a sense of what I could do and did it anyway), and in my old age I realized they just didn’t understand. If more girls had opportunities like this, imagine how much stronger we would be into adulthood and how much more confident we’d be, knowing we can have an idea and then turn it into a reality.
Maybe Avery won’t go into the beauty business in the future or maybe she will, but this has got to be teaching her skills I wish I had learned when I was young. She’ll be equipped for creating/running ANY business, (starting with an idea, planning and working and knowing what steps she has to take to make it happen, along with the work ethic and passion, determination, dedication and commitment of seeing it through) and this has given her the opportunity and strength to know she can without fear or thinking “she can’t”.
When I was just about 6 years old or younger, I remember picking flowers out of people’s yards in the neighborhood, going home and creating little bouquets with them, tying them up with pretty ribbons. I carefully placed them all in my baby doll buggy and then hit the streets, pushing my buggy and knocking on people’s doors and selling their flowers right back to them for 10cents. Gary Vaynerchuk has mentioned doing something similar when he was a child and honestly knowing he did it made me feel understood in a way (all these years later)… sure it wasn’t right to pick their flowers, but it was my entrepreneurial spirit fighting to make its way out. If I had a mentor then, someone to guide and teach me what Girls Crushing It is doing now, I feel like I would have been so much further along on so many levels where I had to learn by trial and error way into my twenties (and finally put into real practice in my thirties).
Even if a young girl doesn’t have the entrepreneurial urge, I think the skills they’re teaching at Girls Crushing It are something that we all wish were taught in schools -not only to us (then) but to our children (now). I hope these amazing girlprenuers seriously crush it because they’re the next generation of amazing women doing amazing things for our future.
