I stumbled on this fun look by Nasty Gal on Pinterest and immediately thought OH HELL YEAH, I’LL DIY THAT CHAIN NECKLACE IN A SNAP!.
I went directly to Nasty Gal to investigate further, and while I adore the entire look, the chain necklace is only $40. Now, sure, price is relative, and $40 may be a hefty price to hand over for a chain necklace BUT buying this much chain to make it yourself may run you into that same price range, not to mention the D-rings you’ll need, the two larger chains and pearls, if you want to make an exact replica, and the clasp.
For some reason, and this is directly related to the fact that I do not live near a really rad fabric store and have to source and buy all my supplies online and generally find that buying chain in particular online is difficult due to the way it’s described and sized, it can get pricey. If you live near a really great craft, fabric, or notion store, OR have a majorly awesome source for chains that I am unaware of and can make this necklace for under $20 then I’d say DIY for sure. But I’m thinking $40 seems pretty reasonable for it and so I say BUY!
Unless, of course, you want to make a similar, shorter version, then DIY is the way to go… and this Lovecats, is how I determine whether to DIY something I love or not.
