After experiencing our first fun and snowy white Winter, I’ve been admittedly looking forward to our first Summer on the lake, and so far, it hasn’t disappointed. Everyone says it’s a Summer town rather than a Winter one, but we weren’t really sure what they meant until our lake, which is normally nice and quiet and filled with locals, was suddenly packed full of party people we like to refer to as “flat landers” {or Howlies, as my husband calls them ;} . It’s such a funny term but it’s used often up here on the mountain to refer to people who don’t live here full-time but drive up from the flat desert below, and the longer we live here, the more relevant that word becomes. But holidays here are actually really fun because there are people everywhere {see the photo above} from dawn til dawn, just having the time of their lives.
My brother and sister in law came up with Delilah and we walked down to the lake for a little fun times in the water…
Bro and Sis and Delilah…
And all decked out in Crocs! He’s wearing Men’s Santa Cruz Flip II in gray and she’s wearing Women’s Really Sexi Sandal in espresso {Faves of mine ~ See me wearing them here}
I didn’t have a pair for this lady yet, but her shoes and suit were adorable!
The husband went red, white, and blue with an old Kobe all-star jersey
And Delilah had her first experience in the lake and loved it {but wanted a boat}.
As evening approached, we walked to the Village to catch the Oingo Boingo tribute band called Deadman’s Party. The husband is a HUGE Oingo Boingo fan, so he was in heaven.
Nearly every weekend from May-October, The Village has free concerts and gets packed with people like it’s Disneyland. Our first concert was a Journey tribute band… where we boated to the Village with friends, I poured beer on my face, and had a life-changing experience. Above was the Boingo tribute band, who were really great!
We found a little grassy area to sit and wait until nightfall for the fireworks… Delilah and I took a walk and returned with a fun butterfly toy which kept her busy for a good hour or so {but nearly gave the rest of us seizures}.
We happened to both be wearing polka dots… her dress was purple, my overalls were blue {See my overall outfit post here}
We have fun playing together 😉
As the sun was setting, we headed toward the lake to get a better view of the fireworks, which they set off from a boat or barge in the middle of the water.
The sunset was really gorgeous that night and cast a peachy-orange glow light onto the lake.
We found a spot on the sand and as we waited for the sun to set, watched the boats slowly clutter the entire lake getting ready for the show. It was so pretty I can’t even begin to describe it! The photos, of course, do not do it justice.
And then as the show began, we realized there was a big tree in our line of vision, so we moved closer to the water and had the absolute best view on the planet. Well, I suppose the people on the boats had the best view… which is where we hope to be next year.
And so it began…
I can’t tell you how amazing it was to be sitting on the sand watching the show… and it was the most spectacular firework display I have ever seen. Disneyland puts on a pretty amazing show, but this even beat Disney. It was so amazingly gorgeous with all the little boats on the lake and the reflection on the water, I may have teared up a few times. I was overwhelmed with emotion, it was so pretty.
Firework Finale Extravaganza!
I know it’s a few days late, but I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July and holiday weekend!
