Oh, June… the beginning of all things SUMMER, where we anticipate fun days in the sun lounging by some body of water and relaxing the day away in as little clothing as possible. But then reality sets in and we awaken to overcast skies and dreary days, otherwise known as June Gloom. It happens every year, yet somehow we’re surprised by it and bummed at the same time. I am, anyway… but usually by noon the sun finally wakes up and comes out to play and we can shed our layers and bask in the warmth of the day.
When I was shopping at Ross ‘Dress for Less’ recently as a Ross Secret Bargain Hunter, I found a handful of cute and summery dresses -and while I did promptly snatch them up, I also grabbed this great long black maxi dress, which in the fitting room, wasn’t nearly as sheer as it looks outdoors. Of course there’s a flesh-toned slip underneath that hits mid-thigh, so nothing is actually revealed, but it appears to be, and the illusion is definitely sexy! With it’s weight and length though, it’s perfect for June Gloom and topped with a denim shirt, which can easily be removed and tied around the waist when the sun does finally appear from behind the clouds, makes this the perfect pre-summer summer outfit.
This simple look can really be styled in so many ways. My fringe bag, bangles, and aviator sunglasses, all from Ross as well {with a few of my own bracelets mixed in} give it a bit of a boho vibe, but swap them out and you’ve got yourself a completely different look. I love options and variety and clothes that can be worn a hundred different ways… and a great-fitting designer black maxi dress for a fraction of the “designer” cost, is hands down, my favorite for versatility, now and all year long.
