Beauty // Rose Byrne x Violet Grey

I ADORE Rose Byrne… I cannot wait to see SPY, but I think she first captured my heart and funny bone in Get Him to the Greek, and more specifically, when at the end of her “music video” she holds up her hand, makes a the “OK” sign, looks through it and sings “I’m talking about my asshole” which literally made me double over in laugher and then immediately turn into the heart-eyed emoji. She’s so so pretty and so slight and I know it’s stereotypical to think that because of those two traits she wouldn’t be funny, but her comedic timing is just impeccable. For all those reasons and so many more, I had to share photos and blurbs from her recent beauty feature in Violet Grey magazine.

Rose Byrne has had leading roles in some of the most lauded films to hit the silver screen in recent history, including Bridesmaids. Just a day shy of the release of her next movie, action comedy Spy, which hit theaters nationwide on Friday, June 5th, she posed exclusively for VIOLET GREY’s The Violet Files magazine, showing that a woman can be ultra-feminine amidst a summer spent with leagues of mutants. (She’s currently filming X-Men: Apocalypse alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn.)

For her beauty shoot, which she calls “a collaboration” with makeup artist, Kate Lee, she opted for light makeup, loads of glitter (which she was finding between her toes days afterward) and calligraphic eyeliner that floated like ribbon across her eyes.

Below are a few quotes from the full story at VIOLETGREY.COM.

Rose Byrne

On women being judged by their appearance…

Look at Hillary Clinton. She has to spend time getting her hair and makeup done when a male candidate doesn’t have to do that as much. Or at least as much grooming. It really is this very old concept that we are valued for putting ourselves together and presenting ourselves….However, it’s important to take care of yourself and it doesn’t hurt to put on a bit of lipstick.

On comedy…

Comedy is hard. Talk about trying to make something look effortless! Better to be scared about the work than to feel as if it is too familiar territory.

On looks she knows better than to try…

Brown lipstick. The 90s may be back, but I’m still recovering from that look.

On Beauty…

Beauty comes from within. It is a cliché, but I think it’s true. But in this business, it’s hard to reconcile that when you’re constantly being told things about your appearance, whether you’re too pretty or too plain or brunette or whatever their problem is.
