Our master bedroom has this window with big white shutters that looks directly out to our backyard pool and in the late afternoon, the water from pool reflects onto our ceiling and feels like a tropical getaway. I really love it.
Sometimes I have an idea for exactly how I want a room to look {like my studio} but sometimes the room needs to speak for itself and dictate just how it should look and feel. This is the case with our master bedroom. Anything other than a beachy/tropical feel would just be going against the grain. And since being on a tropical vacation is alluring and relaxing and sexy …wouldn’t it just be the exact feeling you’d want in your bedroom? Me too.
Blue interiors and rooms by Barclay Butera including the pillows, the first of which I purchased for far more than anyone should spend on a pillow, but a fraction of the original cost, at the Gilt Group home sale yesterday morning {losing sleep due to the desire of pillows is positively unnecessary. did I just say positively? wow}. A bit more inspiration comes from Los Angeles designer Michael Smith who incorporates this similar blue and white pattern in many of his rooms {photos taken with my camera from C Magazine May 2008} …but original idea came from my mom’s 80’s blue and white china dishes. Gorgeous girl in fabulously patterned skirt with legs spread via flickr. Amazing trees behind her are in front of a house on Beverly Glenn Blvd. I pass on my way to the gallery.
Our deep chocolate brown leather{like} bed frame arrived a little over a month ago now, and I recently found this hand made dresser that suits it but am currently still on the hunt for the perfect night tables and bedside lamps. Until about two days ago I couldn’t find any great blue and white patterned anything but finally settled on these sheets from Crate&Barrel almost minutes before spying the Barclay Butera magical pillows at the upcoming gilt sale. A large leafy palm sits in our living room awaiting it’s final destination in our bedroom but I’m beginning to love it so much there, I may just have to buy another one …or ten.

That’s so interesting what you say about letting the room speak to you. I have done this all my life (I’m your momma’s age I’m thinking) and I cannot tell you the people I have frustrated in the process!
How could I know what I want to do in a minute?? I have to get a feel for the room and a feel for how I feel in the room.
I’ve lived in my new house for over a year and am just now getting REAL ideas for my loft bedroom. I have a triangle-shaped wall of windows that is really challenging and I am finally getting there.
You are fun.

So jealous you’ve got a large window and the perfect room for a tropical retreat! Our bedroom, scratch that, whole condo actually doesn’t have many windows and does not get any direct sunlight. Love your colors!

Love the animals on the coffee table and the bright blue pillows.
I can’t believe I’ll be moving to a tropical country, having access to a pool, all this loveliness. I’d love to have this decor at home for sure!

Anything that reminds you of vacation is perfect for the bedroom. I love the sound of all the pieces you’ve been picking up. Just be patient and remember that it may take months, even years to get the room you’ve always wanted. You’ll pick up perfect trinkets along the way.

Those sheets are perfection! LOVE the deep indigo hue. Just gorgeous!
