Last Thursday, while at the local farmer’s market, waiting in line for my favorite new addiction, bonjour yogurt, my friend Michelle surprised me by tapping me on the shoulder, to which I immediately turned and screamed YOU’RE BACK!?!?! She’s always in and out of town, up and down the mountain, on the go in a way that even just thinking about it fills me with anxiety 🤪

We chatted while waiting for our yogurt (there’s always a line for yogurt) and she informed me about a HUGE STORM that was supposedly coming next week (NOW). I was grateful for the news at that very moment because it allowed me to buy enough yogurt to last me two weeks just in case she was right about the storm and I wouldn’t be able to get more next week… I told you, it’s an addiction. I eat it every night as a late night snack and when I don’t have it, my day/night is considerably less good. You see the difference between my life and Michelle’s? She’s waiting for her next adventure and I’m making sure my fridge is stocked full of yogurt for the upcoming storm wherein I won’t be leaving my house, in my car, for at least 5 days. And for the record, I went to the library today and checked out 3 new books to keep me busy in case I run out of creative things to make or do or film or photograph. And I must say, I don’t hate my life. I love it.

Anyway, back to the weather… Michelle was the first in a long line of people I’ve run into since last Thursday who have talked about this coming storm. It’s the talk of the town and people are hyping it UP like we’ve never had snow before! It’s truly boggling the mind, especially since the last few days have been so warm and sunny I didn’t even need my puffer coat for my afternoon walk. You’d never know a storm was coming… until this afternoon when the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up the the sky turned from blue to grey.

That’s California for you I guess… and now that it’s around 11:30pm and I’m typing this, the wind is whipping the closest bare tree branches around in a way that makes it sound like knives are scraping the sides of my windows and rain is pounding at an angle I’ve never quite witnessed before and in a few minutes a bit of snow will arrive…

Come to think of it, the last storm did result in no less than two ancient and extremely large trees falling onto, or more like, INTO, two of the townhouses in my little community, which was terrifying to see a few days later having ripped into the side of these houses, taking out two full stories in one fell swoop. Luckily all were safe, no-one was hurt and none were mine, thankfully. If you think I haven’t worried about being trapped or killed by a future falling tree and/or investigated the areas around my house and surveyed the nearby trees and which way they’d fall if they might indeed fall, you’d be wrong. I have. More than once.

I shot these photos a few weeks ago after a light dusting of snow, which left everything quite beautiful, as you can see but, needless to say, it’s been a rough winter, kind of, I guess, but not the worst I’ve lived through as of yet. We’ve had so much rain that the lake is already so full they’re letting the water out to keep the level from overflowing nearby homes and winter is not yet over…

And it just started snowing.

Well, I guess the forecasts were right. Wish us luck ⛄️
